per this update from Doogie:

Flip Saunders on his former Gophers teammate, guard Ray Williams: "Probably the best athlete to ever step on the floor at Williams Arena. ... He had colon cancer a while ago. He fought it and got over it, but now has a recurrence. He lives in Florida, but the New York Knicks (one of his former professional teams) air-bused him back to New York. He's in the hospital there. His family is there. Prayers are with him. Those who saw him play know how dynamic he was."

Go Gophers!!

Tubby wouldn't even have to coach if he had a couple of " Ray Williams " type players. Prayers go out to " Sugar" Ray.

Part of the best team the Gophers have ever had!

Ray Williams is on my all time Greatest Gopher team. His '76-'77 team was better than the '97 Final Four team.

It might have been the best team in Gopher basketball history and Ray Williams was a major reason why!

Yes i agree that was the best team in Gopher history. Ray had a decent career averaging about 15 a game over 10 seasons in the nba. brother of one of my favorite players....Gus Williams who had some great seasons for the sonics. i remember somone posted on here a year or two ago that ray was homeless and living out of a car or something like that. Too bad about Ray and his continued health battles.
