The 2014 Gopher Football season will go down in history for many reasons. Playing in a new Years Bowl Game fir the first time since 1962, the winning of the Little Brown Jug and Floyd of Rosedale...the hopeful beginning of a new trophy. However, several Gopher players broke, set, or extended in-game, season, or career records in 2014. Here is a quick recap of who has placed themselves in the Gopher Football Record Book after the 2014 season according to Gophersports.com

Minnesota Bowl Records

An estimated 20,000 Gopher fans attended the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl last week. Though they witnessed a Minnesota loss to Missouri, they also experienced the program’s first January bowl since the 1961-62 season, one of Mitch Leidner’s best passing games and an exhibition of Maxx Williams’ athletic ability.

A handful of new records highlighted the game for Minnesota. Here is a look at some of the updates:

Minnesota Bowl Records
TEAM: 22 passes completed; .667 completion percentage
Mitch Leidner: 21 passes completed; .677 completion percentage
Cedric Thompson: 27 career bowl tackles
Maxx Williams: 12 career bowl receptions; two career bowl receiving touchdowns (tied for first)

Other Minnesota Top-Three Bowl Performances
TEAM: second-most passing yards with 267
Mitch Leidner: second in career bowl passing yardage (463); third in career bowl completions (32)
Maxx Williams: tied for second with seven receptions

As a whole, the 2014 season brought a plethora of new records and accomplishments. Minnesota recorded its second straight eight-win season and third straight bowl appearance. The Gophers are in simultaneous possession of the Little Brown Jug, Floyd of Rosedale and the Governor’s Victory Bell for the first time.

Standout individual performances drew attention from the Big Ten and across the country. Jerry Kill was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the conference coaches and media. Maxx Williams, the first sophomore John Mackey Award finalist, received multiple All-America honors and was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year. Peter Mortell was named Big Ten Punter of the Year. Eleven total Gophers earned All-Big Ten recognition.

David Cobb made one of the biggest impacts on the Gopher record book this season, with the most noticeable being his season rushing record of 1,626 yards. For those interested in digging deeper into the numbers, here is a detailed list of major records updates:

Mitch Leidner: 14 consecutive completions (vs. Missouri; tied for first)
Jalen Myrick: fourth-ever 100-yard kick return by a Gopher
Maxx Williams: three receiving touchdowns by a tight end (vs. Iowa)

TEAM: held Michigan to 171 yards (83 rushing, 88 passing); also held Eastern Illinois (99), San Jose State (68) and Iowa (84) under 100 yards rushing
