If the program continues to improve, I'm hopeful in the next 2-3 years we land our first 5 star recruit. My question is, what position do you think that 5 star will be or what position do you want the 5 star to be:

I hope its a 5 star OL.

Which other Big Ten schools have never had one?

When will the next five star prospect come out of MN?

How can you choose OL over a 5 Star QB

Unfortunately, those guys go to Wisky or Iowa.

When you look at Minnesota's all time highest rated recruits on 24/7, it's amazing how many of the top ten never really had great careers here. Just proves how important development is at the non blue bloods.

Was Jeff Jones 5 star?

Good question. The first school I researched was Northwestern. They had their first 5 star in 2019. Im pretty sure Illinois has had one. Indiana and Purdue?

Wisc's 5* have been OL, and that makes sense for us as well.

My thoughts exactly, plus i feel we have better playmakers at the WR position, so if all goes well, Wisconsin will no longer be the bar for us, rather we set our own bar.

also, i might be drinking some tequila

Has there ever been a 5 star punter, kicker or long snapper?
Specialists are usually either not rated or rated low by the major recruiting sites and then others specific to specialists give them ratings on a different scale. I'm not sure if a specialist has ever been given 5 stars by 247 or similar sites before but the Gophers have had 5 star kickers rated as specialists. Michael Lantz was rated 5 stars as a kicker and 4.5 as a punter. There are way more 5 star specialists though so it doesn't mean as much.

It's all about looking at the odds... To land a 5*, it's probably going to have to be a local kid who's dreamed of playing for the Gophers. How many 5* QBs has MN produced...? Joe Mauer was of that caliber, but since him... anything? Now, on the other hand, we've had some pretty highly rated lineman come from MN recently, although our success at landing them hasn't been good.

Playing the odds, MN will produce a 5* lineman before it produces a 5* QB. Whether or not we can get them to commit, that's another story. Also, maybe, if PJ can string some successful years together, we can compete with the so-called helmet schools for 5* recruits from other parts of the country... but that's for the future to decide.

A bettin' man, playing the odds, will bet on a 5* lineman...
