I’ll be moving there next spring. Obviously won’t help for this season but does anyone know if there’s a community on the main island for MN sports fans? Preferably CFB but any sport will do really.

I plan on becoming a de facto Hawaii fan but it’ll never replace my love/hate MN fandom.

Congrats on the move/fresh start. Ironically, I suggest you ask this question on some Michigan and Ohio State forums. (where are the good sports bars/CFB bars)

Hawaii is a big CFB/football state with many diehard fans. I wouldn't be surprised if there are continents of midwestern fans living there.

My youngest could have gone to the U or Bemidji State or Hawaii Pacific. Chose to go to Aloha Land so I know more about Hawaii than would have otherwise.

Totally agree that the residents of the 50th state are big time sports fans, especially all levels of football. Because of the time difference and geography of the Pacific Basin, I have seen a focus on the West Coast programs for the former PAC-12 and Mountain West. Now with the 4 new members of the B1G+, I'm guessing the interest in programs such as Minnesota might be higher as the western teams now face programs from coast to coast.

For whatever reason Minnesotans tend to land in Florida or Arizona in retirement, but who knows with the military presence how many alumni or just fans call Oahu home.

Good luck on the move. Hawaii is not for everyone but if it floats your boat then good rowing is in your future.

It’s brutal waking up for those 11 am central games at either 6 or 7, but there are places open for football on both Saturdays and Sundays with buffets, special drinks, etc. just like at home for EPL and things like that. I honestly never went out for those morning games as it was hard enough to get up, but typical bars/restaurants are fine for the later games. I never encountered any Gopher fans other than those on vacation, but as others said above, you’ll see plenty of college FB fans anywhere you go watch…so the atmosphere is fun. Find a friend - regardless of what team they cheer for - and make plans to go out now and then.

Hawaii is obviously an incredible place to live, so enjoy your time! My suggestions are spend as much time as you can with the locals, learn the history, and love the land/beauty. Oh, and do go to some UH games! They’re fun!

I just saw something on the Fox 9 morning show about 20 people who flew in from Hawaii for the Vikings game so there is a network of Vikings fans out there. No idea about Gophers fans.
