Gopher Basketball Weekly with Pitino on NOW 630pm Monday

Lol at Pitino wanting to tackle Malik when he jacked up a bad 3 at Richmond.

This is really interesting to listen to. Please let us know when this is on every week!! :)

Is this on demand? The link at the top just takes you to a search field with Pitino in it. I don't see the actual audio.

Nope. I have tried this on my iPhone, my Mac, my PC, and three different browsers. It does NOT work. It does show an audio bar, but nothing happens. The Pitino show also is not listed in any of the "On Demand" shows on the 1500 web site.

Edit: HOWEVER, I just found it elsewhere on the site. Go to the "sportswire/Gophers" portion of the site -- http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/gophers. On the right side of the screen there is a bar for "coach's shows" and "more audio." If you scroll down you can find "Richard Pitino show 11/18/13." Click on that and it works. You may need to make sure your Adobe Flash plugin is up to date.

?? Isn't that the same link Marcus tweeted? See above. What are you using to access that link?

(Not that it matters anyway -- see my post above. The content is available on the Gopher sportswire page ... along with the Pam Borton show in case you're interested. LOL. Heck you can even listen to the Tubby Smith show from last February if you're into some kind of self torture.)

That original post from Jaymil had 1 letter off, an L instead of an I. The link directly from Marcus' twitter works.

Ah, burned by blindly trusting Jaymil's transposition. LOL, thanks

(I believe the point about the iPhone still stands, as it appears to call for Flash, which is not supported on iPhone)

My bad. I can't embed a tweet at work so I had to type the link out. Thanks for posting the right one.

I am actually at home tonight and will be listening in to Pitino in a few minutes. Does anyone know why 1500 is not archiving these shows for people to listen to? The last Pitino show available to listen to on demand is from like 12/18. I'd imagine I am not the only one who is rarely able to listen to the radio at 6:30 on a Monday.

So this is or is not on demand?

Can someone summarize this thread for me?!?

To my knowledge, no episodes of the Richard Pitino show have been available on demand since mid/late December.

I was able to listen to most of the Pitino interview (up until the strech 4 segment with Mackey).

Pitino reiterated that the Gophers lost their "underdog mentality" after beating Ohio State. Instead of believing that they needed a great team effort (like they did against tOSU), Pitino thought the players believed they could just beat Iowa on talent. Pitino laid it on a bit thick in his praise for Iowa (calling them a potential final four team), but did make some good points about how they (Iowa) have developed very good depth over the past few years. Final score of the game was a bit misleading as it was a 5 point game and the Gophers ball at the under 6:00 mark and then a couple mistakes in a row pushed the Hawkeye lead to 11. In general Pitino gave a lot of credit to Iowa and wasn't too tough on his team other than saying they lacked that underdog edge and needed to get that back.

Some interesting conversation on the whole underdog angle. Before the game, Pitino mentioned to the team about Arkansas beating Kentucky and then going on and losing to someone (Georgia?) and about Indiana beating Wisconsin and then losing to Northwestern. Pitino also mentioned something about a Malcolm Gladwell book that included a passage about how it's an advantage to go in to a contest as the underdog, he said he printed out that passage (and I think he said distributed it to the team).

Grimm asked a very good question about how do you encourage that underdog mentality without hurting the players confidence by telling them they're not as good as they think they are. Pitino acknowledged that this was a difficult line to walk and seemed to speak in some generalities here without giving a great answer.

A rather silly discussion took place about the recent history of dancing viral videos from the "U". Grimm mentioned that Jerry Kill hasn't won since he danced in the locker room and that the Gophers went downhill last year after Tubby danced following the Wisconsin game. Pitino said they'd never catch him dancing and made a sarcastic comment about banning dancing in the locker room. The only meat in this discussion was when Pitino mentioned how they have cameras in the locker room for "the Journey" and cameras in the locker room for our own web series and he acknowledged that those things have pros and cons and can be a distraction for the team. He said a few times he'd ban all cameras from the locker room, in a way that was joking, but also in a way that gave me the feeling he might prefer that to happen.

On the Ohio State game, Pitino said he was frustrated that all ESPN's highlights showed were tOSU missing shots and all the articles discussing the game were focused on Ohio State's struggles rather than what Pitino thought was a great defensive effort from the Gophers.

That's all I can remember right now from the interview. Pitino was engaging and funny and it's a good listen IF it ever becomes available on demand.

I felt the same way. Some of OSU's struggles were surely due to what the Gophers were doing on offense and defense...

I get so annoyed when ESPN does that. I feel like that's quite common for any MN team beating a bigger market team.

I too felt the same way when I watched the highlights. I don't know why ESPN has to create their own narrative of the game. Just report what happened - the major plays that led to the outcome. The Gophers missed shots, too; why didn't they show all the Gopher misses and ask why it wasn't a 20-point win?

I know, OSU is the ranked team and the only reason the highlights are broadcast in the first place. Still, a good game was played, and somehow ESPN missed it.

To my knowledge, no episodes of the Richard Pitino show have been available on demand since mid/late December.

The weekly show is available on-demand through the official Gopher Sports smartphone app. The app isn't free ($10/year) but I've found it useful for live radio game feeds, schedules and other stuff (like the Pitino show).
