Now we wait for Cohen's response.

Very interesting. I suspect Cohen will ultimately be happy with the hire and recommit to Marquette.

I love the hire as a Marquette fan. Better than a retread like Howland.

I have no idea what kind of system Wojo intends to run at Marquette, but my first thought was that Cohen doesn't seem like a Duke-type player. I would imagine he would run something similar to Coach K considering he was a Duke player and assistant there for like the last 15 years. Seems like Duke always has wings that can shoot the three ball, which I don't think is considered one of Sandy's strength. I'm sure Wojo would love to keep him around at this point in recruiting, but I'm not sure it's the best fit for Sandy.

I suspect he will hate the decision and decommit from Marquette immediately. Actually I have no idea what he is thinking.

You might be on to something here.

Way too young...

Cohen will have one question. "Do I need to slap the floor on D and look like a moron?" Make or break question.

Doesn't this seem like an underwhelming hire for a program like Marquette? Dawkins and Amaker have redeemed themselves but the K coaching tree is small.

I'd say.

Wardle seemed like the right pick to me... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab...-assistant-steve-wojciechowski-153850215.html Yahoo is right, it's a gamble.

Nope. He would have been extremely underwhelming, not to mention this will be used against him in recruiting and everyone in the state heard about it... http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...tions-uw-green-bay-phoenix-coach-brian-wardle

And this time last year, Wojo was a guy that we couldn't get because he was the "successor" to Coach K. So I don't really see how it's underwhelming.

It's slightly underwhelming due to Woj never being a head coach before. His resume as an assistant is certainly impressive because of the program he was at, I just figured his first head coaching gig would be at a lesser program than Marquette. Woj obviously wasn't their first choice just as Pitino wasn't Minnesota's first choice, the difference being Pitino spent a year as the head guy and had some success, whereas Woj has been under Coach K's shadow his entire coaching career. It'll be interesting to see how he does.

The K coaching tree is small.

Huh?

Chris Collins seems to be off to a good start at NW. Mike Bray is still hanging in at ND. Buffalo won the MAC East this year under Bobby Hurley. You referenced Dawkins and Amaker earlier - good years for both.

What are your thoughts? I would expect Cohen to pursue his release now and for MU to give it to him. If that's the case, I will be very interested to see what (if any) restrictions there are. Mark Miller tweeted that he thinks there will be some fallout among MU recruits with this hiring.

Madtown you are on a roll with these gifs lately. First the Jordan one in another thread and now this one.... I can't help but Laugh out loud at these. Thanks

You know waaaaaaaay more than me UWOle. I have a feeling all will ask for their release so they can at least look around. Wojo will have some work to do to keep some of them on board (assuming he wants them).

Please tweet this to him. But you'll have to get it down to 140 characters.

More importantly, who is going to do Coach K's halftime interviews now? I demand answers!

It's a pretty steep drom from Shaka to Wojo. Has anyone checked on our resident expert?

I think this hire continues to show how difficult it is to get an established coach to switch jobs in this era of college basketball. Nobody is getting their first or second choice anymore, with the notable exception of Virginia Tech.

Whenever I browsed MUScoop for coaching rumors he was heavily endorsing Howland so he's probably bummed.
