Believe it or not, it's actually worth a click:

Pitino could be best Gophers' hire in a decade

Norwood Teague couldn’t hire Shaka Smart, so he hired the guy who might become the next Shaka Smart.

Think of it this way: If Pitino becomes the head coach that Teague envisions, this spring might have been the only chance Minnesota ever would have to hire him. By next year, he might have hit the “ignore’’ button on his smartphone every time he saw a phone call from the 612 area code.

Go Gophers!!

"Given the state of the program and the unwillingness of proven coaches to take the Minnesota basketball job, Pitino might prove ideal: young and ambitious enough to treat Williams Arena as the promised land rather than a retirement home or unguarded ATM."

Ouch!

Sorry Parski

Questions for Parski:

1. What is the name Tech's fan board, the parallel of GH for Gopher Fans?
2. Will you also use your Parski1 moniker there?
3. If you do not want to share your moniker on Tech's fan board, you can PM me and we can kidnap station19 and have a blast there.

Thanks. Doc

What got into him? That was a positive article about the U. First Sid praises him now Souhan. Coach P is more talented than we thought.

Souhan just tweeted how this...

"Jim Souhan ‏@SouhanStrib 56m

Funny, was told Richard Pitino not available all weekend. Just heard him on national radio. More bad public relations from worst org in Mn"

Have no interest in reading Souhan at this point, even if article is favorable.

Now that's the Souhan I know.

Given the choice of national radio or Soupcan, Gee, I wonder what I would choose?

Soupcan really has too many burrs in his saddle to even think straight.

Go Gophers!!

UCLA & Minnesota seemed to be joined at the hip leading up to and during their coaching searches:

1) Howland & Tubby both have put together impressive coaching resumes, but both have lost the fire and gotten lazy.

2) It was widely considered (correctly, it turns out) that the losing team's coach in the Gopher/Bruin first round NCAA tourney game would be fired. Howland was the first to get the axe. Tubby followed shortly thereafter.

3) Both teams basically started out trying to hire the same hot coaches (Shaka, Brad Stephens, etc) with no success. Souhan said: "Given the state of the program and the unwillingness of proven coaches to take the Minnesota basketball job ...". That statement was a cheap shot, because it actually applied to UCLA too. UCLA couldn't get he very coaches that Souhan is knocking the Gophers for not being able to get.

4) UCLA went for the safe, but unexciting Steve Alford. I don't believe many Gopher fans would have been happy if Alford were heading here.

5) The Gophers went the other way and hired the high risk, but high reward young up & comer.

We now cross our fingers and hope reality doesn't mess with our fantasy.

Soupcan might not be aware that the Final 4 is this weekend and Richard Pitino is there.

This is a childish and unprofessional statement. The new coach has a chance to get national publicity for his program while he is at the Final Four and the pompous local scribe takes a shot at him and the U because he wasn't at his beckon call....

LOL - He's just pissed because he didn't get an interview. Isn't it about time for Souhan to retire anyway?

Ah, the dreaded Parski Seal of Disapproval.

Souhan must have missed the exclusive interview with Pitino aired on his own radio station, 1500 ESPN, minutes after the press conference. Judd and Dubay spent more time breaking down the interview than the press conference.

See, Souhan actually goes out and writes an uncharacteristically readable column, free of cheap shottery and poor humor, and then has to go and act like a whiny child on Twitter. This guy can't help himself. I can only imagine how unhappy he must be in his personal life.

Calling one of the places that you write columns about "the worst organization in Minnesota" doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Why don't they just blackball this guy?

In a way, Bleed is doing that for us here on GopherHole. Most of his links here, relating to Soupcan, have the disclaimer "Not worth clicking on", or "This is a good read." In Bleed and Selection Sunday I trust. :)

Agree. If I were the U, I would put this guy on the bottom of this list. Maybe they already have and that is why he is so upset. The U is not looking for someone to kiss their azz, but they should be shown some respect.

SoupCan has the right to write what he wants, it's called freedom of the press. If he writes what you don't like (his right), you have the right to disagree with him. (your right). The beauty of it is...Our Constitution. How would we be today, if our writers of the Constitution only wrote what we laymen wanted to hear?

So while I do not like Jim Souhan (interject Pat Reusse here) and his negativism, he has the right to write it. And we should all be happy and proud of that.

He (They) have the right to write. We have the right to not agree with what they write. And for that, do you guys really want him to relinquish the right to write, while we have the right to censor what they write?
