Not a bad night for the Gophers. In addition to an impressive road win over Illinois, last night every one of the Gophers' nonconference opponents that played was victorious. Most significantly, Florida State registered a come-from-behind win @ previously once-beaten Maryland. The Seminoles gradually are climbing their way up the RPI ladder. Every little bit helps.

Florida State over Maryland
Memphis over East Carolina
Richmond over Rhode Island
Stanford over Wazzu
Toledo over Kent State

Knock on wood, what's nice about this season is that the "every little bit" has become about improving the Gophers' NCAA seed (and improving chances of landing in KC) and not about improving their "bubble" hopes. A nice change of pace, for sure.

And I think I saw some stat near the end of the game.

It was something like "Gophers are the only team in the country to have beaten three ranked teams". It was either "in the country" or "in the Big Ten". Anyone remember?

It is so nice to finally have a year where we don't have to NEED the teams we beat in the non conference to do well to make the tourney. This year I am still pulling for Florida State, Memphis, Stanford, etc. to do well, but it is nice to just watch the Gophers climb the ladder just by winning their own conference games.

If Illinois would've won, they would've accomplished that same feat.

Seconded.

(A) Big Ten Tournament bye and (B) getting shipped to Kansas City have become my primary focus. If the Gophers snatch a conference title along the way, that's even better, as that would guarantee/greatly enhance the chances of (A) and (B) happening.

Do you think whoever wins the B1G will get a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament?

Would sure think so. This might be one of those years the Big Ten could get a pair of #1 seeds. Right now the best candidates for #1 seeds (excluding the Gophers) appear to be Arizona, Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, and Syracuse. Florida and Gonzaga probably less so because they could fall victim to the conferences they play in.

If I had to pick four right now (projecting ahead), it'd be Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, and Michigan. The Brian Kelly injury could be serious and would really hurt the Dukies.

Gophers would be a 1 seed (at worst 2) if today were Selection Sunday. I still think they end up in the 3-6 range, with 4 the most likely in my opinion.

They'll be ranked at the end of the year...

Yeah they should be. Their only 3 losses so far are to VCU, Minnesota, and Louisville. If they do their normal 13-3 or 14-2 conference record, they'll be ranked at the end of the year.

Regardless of results in the next 2 games, the Gophers will probably inherit the #1 SOS ranking by next Friday.

Who is Brian Kelly?

Best part of the year so far: We've been doing so well, I haven't even thought about top 50 wins and stuff like that at all.

Amen. I still keep tabs of it, but there's been much less stressing about it (knock on wood).
