Good news re: Tubby/Maryland rumors?

The attached article talks about Debbie Yow accepting the AD job at NC State and moving from Maryland. It's been a few years, but there was quite a bit of public friction between Yow and Gary Williams that lead to speculation about Yow removing Williams or Williams getting fed up and leaving/retiring. You would think those rumors would disappear now, as you'd think Williams should be safe for awhile.

Of course, with a new AD coming to NC State, you'd have to think Sid Lowe needs to pull a significant rabbit out of his hat this season. If he doesn't, I would think he's gone and the rumor mill will be churning with Tubby's name thrown into the mix.

Look! All of these 'Tubby might leave' rumors would be far less disconcerting if somehow someone would get significant progress made toward a new basketball practice facility. Why hasn't anything advanced?

Tubby's freind, Herb Sendek, at ASU has a new practice facility and it has elivated his recuriting results measurably. IMO a new practice facility should be a top priority for the U and gopher fans. Tubby has said that he wants be here. If we want him here, why don't we get a state of the art facility for he and the mens and womens bb teams to work out of?

Um, because the U took a 32 million dollar hit for the next accounting period? Because there's a 4.4% tuition hike? Because the state is facing more massive deficits? Those might be political reasons, but politics at the U is always in play.

Because there's been a new football stadium built and money is being raised for a new baseball field and the big boosters might be tapped out? I would guess that's a pretty practical reason. Also, it's debatable if a new practice facility would improve our recruiting that much. Just because you say it, doesn't mean it's true.

Tubby's name always seems out there partly because he lets it get out there with these openings. Sort of a chicken or the egg, but maybe the recruiting would be better if people were convinced he was here to stay.

Tubby will be 60 in 2011. I doubt either school wants to hire a 60 year old coach (if Williams and/or Lowe are gone).
