ATC outside of Chicago caught fire, meaning just about everything in the middle of the country is severely delayed. Sitting on the plane at MSP now waiting ....
I drove past O'Hare about 15 minutes ago and there was a lot of black smoke. Don't know if that's the issue, but it could be. Good luck!
Might be a separate issue, this happened at a radar in Aurora. They're saying over 1500 cancelled flights as a result.
Getting routed to Denver and on to Detroit by midnight, but at least I'll be at the tailgate bright and early tomorrow. Go Gophs
Just landed in Detroit ... Let's do this thing. Sorry about your luck UU.
36 year old Brian Howard started the fire that caused the problem. An employee, he was upset about a transfer, to Hawaii.
Faced transfer to HawaiiHoward had worked eight years in the center but faced a transfer to Hawaii, the FBI says in an affidavit. The documents don't specify his job title but said he worked in "telecommunications matters."
The FBI said Howard arrived at the control center a little after 5 a.m. dragging a "hard-sided roller board suitcase" into the basement, where he usually worked. He allegedly sent the Facebook message about 30 minutes after arriving and the recipient notified police.
