I expect Minnesota to be in the upper half of the Big 10 and near the top 25. You guys have solid guards and a terrific frontcourt. Tubby has always been a favorite coach of mine. I think you'll look back on this win (hopefully) as a key one on your resume in March. As a Siena fan I'm encouraged for us contending in our conference and the rest of our OOC games (we go to Northeastern on Saturday and host Butler next week and Ga. Tech later in the season)

Wondering if you guys can give Siena fans an outsider's objective views on Siena and our players?

Good luck in Puerto Rico and in the Big 10!

Coach used up all timeouts with 10 minutes still left in 2nd half.....not good

that one kid is a player. solid, hope they get into the ncaa so that game makes both of us look good. great game siena fans

Disappointed with your big guy. Think Minnesota's bigs were too physical for him. It did help MN that they let the bigs play (not a lot of fouls underneath). Otherwise Siena looked surprisingly good. Shooting lights out helped a lot. Guards are good. Good defense. Made some bad passes due to inexperience. You have some good players.

Clarence Jackson had a great game, and Rossiter can play, although he didn't put up huge numbers tonight. Brookins played well down the stretch. Given the last three seasons and the players left of the roster, I'd have to take you guys as favorites to repeat in the MAAC.

And not really about the players, but I thought Buonaguro was the biggest prick I've ever seen on a sideline. He made Bo Ryan look calm and collected. Berated players as the came to the bench, yelled at anything that happened to walk past him. I couldn't really believe how constantly and ridiculously livid he was. It was liking watching Joe Pesci coach basketball. I felt bad for the players.

Tubby had high praise for Jackson after the game. We didn't have anyone that could stay in front of him. He disrupted our entire defense.

Dude was a trip. Imagine when his order is messed up at Perkins.

Jackson was a force and held your team in the game. Your big guy - Rossiter was just overmatched with our frontcourt. You have a very good team, but they were worn down in the second half. The difference may be playing 7-8 guys to our 10-12 guys. We have depth and it paid off in the long haul.

Very good performance. Jackson was great obviously but he was also on fire all night which obviously won't happen often. Rossiter couldn't do much against the size and Brookins was excellent. Hard to get a feel for your team because Jackson and Brookins couldn't miss and your supposed best player didn't do much. Still they played smart, moved the ball well and played pretty good D. Should be a pretty solid team this year

Siena gave the Gs all they could handle the 1H. Great guards and Minny's defense didn't seem to have the answers in that area. Saints are unlikely to see many oppponents with Minnesota's size, depth and athleticism as they get into their conference where they will likely dominate again this year.

OK to see an aggressive coach, but ill-advised H2 use of TOs proved costly as his team made a strong final run as time wound down. Maybe he'll learn more about time/game management when he reviews the tape and reflects on Tubby's strategy in this area.

...but I thought Buonaguro was the biggest prick I've ever seen on a sideline...

Man I thought Buonaguro was great. Jud Heathcote and Gene Keady all rolled into one. Loved his fire and passion. I have heard his players love him. As for "biggest pricks" you obviously never saw Coach Knight at Williams Arena. They don't come much bigger than Bobby.

As far as using all his time outs by the 10 minute mark, I thought that was odd but I could understand his fear that the game was getting out of hand. Each time he used one his team stopped a Gopher run and they fought back to keep it close. The game could have easily gotten out of hand if he had not called them. The one he called 10 seconds before the TV time out was due was wasted though in my opinion.

I really enjoyed This game. Those guards (12 and 13) were awesome. The big guy (22) was disappointing. Good luck to Siena the rest of the way. They are a fun team to watch. Great hustle.

Siena looks like they'll have a solid season

I'd say Siena is going to have another solid season. They were fearless and fought the whole game. They took on a team that is more athletic and showed that their discipline can certainly counteract athleticism. I thought this was quite a good game for so early in the year. It did not feel like early/mid November. Kudos to Siena for coming into a visiting arena and fighting it out for 40 minutes. I couldn't believe how many times they kept making shots and keeping it close in the final couple of minutes.

As a Gophers fan I was glad to see them playing a challenging opponent during the preseason. This game, combined with the Puerto Rico tourney, seems like a solid start.

The Brookins kid is going to be a ball player once he gets more PT and takes better care of the ball. I hope Jackson missed the plane as we could use a dude like him. Rossiter appeared rattled most of the game and looks as if he tried to do too much but he has the makings of a good player.

Pretty good team D all around. In spite of the high # of turnovers, your team hung in there after getting behind which will help them down the road. But our guard play and passive approach the last 4 minutes aided your cause greatly. Depth may be an issue for Sienna.

Siena's going to be a factor this year. I don't understand how you guys could lose to Vermont. That was a great team for the majority of the night last night. I think Rossiter will be better when he's not having athletic 6'11 players rotating on him. Jackson was superb for the first half, and then tapered off a bit. I still like the look of him. Your point guard will be a good player at some point. He's quick. Anosike should be something at some point, but right now he commits too many turnovers. Overall, I think your biggest problem is the coach. The dude was screaming at people, and seemed like he was throwing temper tantrums, rather than "constructive yelling." I don't know, some of the players seemed to be rattled by his constant badgering.

Athleticism

I would say the Siena guards are definitely more athletic and quicker than our guards. Brookins and Jackson are two of the quicker guards in the country. Once Brookins gets more experience you will have a fine team with those 2 and Rossiter down low. Rossiter reminds me of Howard at Butler, but Rossiter is twice the rebounder. Your sophmore pf Anoskie looks like he could develop too.

I don't understand that either. There is one explanation I can think of, but I want to stop thinking about it...

The student mocking/mimicking him was PRICELESS when he looked directly up into the student section!

Vermont was in the NCAA tourney last year. They won their conference. They are not a bad team.

Jackson started 7/7 with Nolen guarding him. Not to bad. Has anyone in the Big Ten ever done that.

Vermont was a 16 seed and only return one starter... middle of the pack team this year in the AmEast

I skimmed through the replay on my DVR. Siena Freshman 'backup' PG Brookins had quite the finish. He scored his first points with about two minutes left in the game. It was an acrobatic twisting spinning reverse layup that he made right after Hoff hit the 3pt shot to put us up by 10. Brookins wound up scoring 12 in those final 2 minutes. Siena Fan wanted Brookins to get more minutes at PG than Griffin. Brookins had 17 minutes and Griffin had 23. Good thing it wasn't the other way around.

I mentioned to my buddy at the start of the game that Jackson reminded me of Vincent Grier with the way he walked and moved and then he played better than Grier-- didn't expect him to be able to do whatever he wanted like that. It seemed like the only thing that slowed him down was getting tired because the Gophers kept putting different guys on him. Al and Chip had a tough time, it seemed to me like Rodney played him the best and that might have been cuz Jacksons legs were getting tired. And it was a good thing Brookins didn't get going sooner, we had no answer the last two minutes. But overall defense wears down shooters, Sienna's % dropped consistently after the first 8 minutes. Should be a good, fun team to watch all year.
