Figure for those of you like me I'll let you know who wrote the article since I don't click on fat, drunk, Pat reusse or Jim sadist soupcan.

Very interesting to see how we play today... we gotta compete. National TV, pretty important game for the coaching staff. Lots of people paying attention....evaluating. Looking for good things!

"He gets fired up, but it’s not the same as Coach Kill,” safety Antonio Johnson said. “You’ll see Coach Kill on game day, after a bad call, he gets really fired up. But Coach Claeys is more laid back, like, ‘Hey, we got this."

Claeys was pretty fired up on the sideline during the Michigan game.

Cool article!

OSU kicked Oregon's ass last year by 22. Pretty much pushed Alabama all over to win it all. What will be the definition of competing in this game? To me it would be playing without mistakes and making some big plays and having a chance at the half. I believe we will not see a Wisconsin like performance from last years BIG championship. Our D will be good.

I love the quiet confidence. When someone is confident and competent in what they're doing, they don't care what other people think about it, and the criticism just rolls off. Kill, for all his great qualities, seemed a bit too self aware and sensitive to criticism.

Despite Limey's big gaffe last weekend, we have a new philosophy here folks and all bets are off for what the season holds. I see a little bit of Patterson and Belicheck in the attitude and the analytical ability to find those tendencies and match ups using maybe not the best athletes in interesting ways.

Time will tell but the offense has really come alive the last couple games. I suspect the team will respond positively to an aggressive approach that stands a chance of moving the ball in chunks and gets everyone involved.

Good article, good coach, good person.
JK's theory is to run the football almost to the point of doing it or die trying. With a healthy oline, that can work by forcing the issue, and making sure everyone on the team understands we play physical football. This year there was no way we could get the push in the middle, and maybe we should have seen it earlier. It is not easy sometimes trying to figure out whether you have to keep pushing in what you want to do, or make changes to maximize short term results. Maybe we should have figured out before Northwestern that we did not have the size, health and experience in the interior line to pound people like we want to. I actually think TC has a better chance to be objective about that than JK does.

Love the guys he admires: Bob Knight, Bill Parcells and Wade Phillips. Old school winners. None of the new wave, PC correct wussies. That may win at Oregon or USC but ain't gonna work here. I'm on board for Claeys at least a couple years.

Block, tackle, take care of the football.

There's no other way to win around here.

Tracy gets that.

Run the ball and play defense.

For us, there are no shortcuts.

God, if only Kill would have had the same philosophy.

Kill could be stung by criticism. Claeys seems oblivious to it. He insists he pays no attention to Gophers media coverage during the season.

He’s still accountable. After the Nebraska loss, Claeys said it was his fault for not having the defense better prepared. He also said he should have had Mitch Leidner spike the ball with 19 seconds remaining against Michigan.

“I will take all the blame in the world,” Claeys said. “But I could sleep at night because I could tell you that we did our best to get ready for that football game.”...

Kill stewed over losses. Claeys turns the page. He learned from Marty Schottenheimer about leaving a loss behind by midnight, using the next day to correct mistakes and then moving on to the next opponent.

Last week was cold and gray, until Sunday morning, the day after the Michigan nightmare.

“Every time we’ve lost, it’s one of those things where the sun seems to find a way to come up,” Claeys said. “And I’m moving on and doing what I can to make us better, and give us a chance to win next week.”

Here's to hoping that Tracy and Jerry have NOTHING to think or stew about tomorrow. :drink:

Excellent points.
