I see that the Zags can play in Spokane this year because they played 3 or less "home" games at the Spokane arena hosting the 1st and 2nd rounds.

That being the case, why have the Gophers never been eligible to play games at the Dome?

As of right now, Gonzaga is teetering around that 4-6 seed range and you know they're going to be placed in a Spokane pod where they will get 2 home games, and the second one will likely be against a team seeded higher than them - for example Lunardi's most recent Bracketology.

If I was seeded higher than Gonzaga and had to play them in Spokane I'd be livid.

Because the U of M has served as the host school every time the NCAAs have been played at the Dome. Gonzaga is not the host institution in Spokane.

The reason the Zags can play in Spokane is because Wazzu is the host at Spokane.

The U has always been the host of games at the Dump, and the host school can't play at the site for which they are the host.

Besides, there's a BIG difference between the Spokane County Dog Pound and the Spokane Arena. The Pound is a newer arena that is damn nice for a WCC school. Spokane Arena is like the Taco in Boise: a flea-ridden, antiquated, falling down out-and-out dump.

How is Washington State the host school? The games aren't in Pullman. What a crock.

In that case, if games are at the Dome in the future, why can't NDSU or SDSU be the host school?

I know this is a technicality but whatever. The Zags as always are overrated and will lose early in the tournament.

Last year's games at the Rose Garden in Portland had the U of Oregon as the host. Last time I looked, Eugene was a long ways down I-5 from Portland.

I think the odds are better of NDSU or SDSU hosting a first/second round in Fargo or Sioux Falls, respectively, than them hosting one in the Dump.

Interestingly enough, the NCAA hasn't booked any venues for early round games next year.

Pullman is only 75 miles from Spokane.

There's been discussion about NDSU or SDSU hosting at the Metrodome.

The issue, though, is the Gophers would likely have to be a top 3 seed in order to get placed at the Dome. Villanova got placed in Philly recently as a 3-seed (I think).

Did they drop the rule that allows the 'Conference' to host? I know it was in place for a while. The Gophers could simply let the 'Big 10' be the host and then they'd be allowed to play at the Dome.

I don't think Spokane Arena is that bad considering they are holding the first round of the tournament there. They also held the figure skating championships there this year, and the prudes would have been up in arms if it was flea-ridden, antiquated, and falling down. I was just there this summer and they put in a nice bar and must have done some renovating since you last saw it.

I think if people come to Spokane, they will like it here. The weather is much better and consistent than Seattle, money goes a long way here, Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint are not far away, and the area is making a promising transition from an extractive industry base to softer industries.

I think the bigger controversy should be over the placement of a 5 seed that close to home. I'd be pretty upset if I were the 4 seed in that pod.

They must have either done a lot of work to the place or built a new one since I was in that arena. As for Spokane, I agree. It's a nice place to visit, and I was recently there visiting a friend who is a Zag.

It's also MUCH easier to drive westbound across Washington State than eastbound.

What is the theory behind not allowing the home team to be in their hosted tournament? Especially if it's held in a venue that the host team hasn't played in that year.
