I have read many times about these guys wanting the PSU or MICH job in the future. If they were the take the MN job would they really move to one of those jobs? I don't think so. I don't see a conference team trying to get a coach from another conference team to move. Has it ever happened? How many Big Ten coaches have left a school for another BCS job at all. Outside of Holtz and Barnett, how many have left? Barnett was 3-9 (0-8) his last year at NW, so they may have not minded him moving on.

many many coaches would rather have psu or michigan job, we can't worry about it. if our hc is good enough to get those jobs then that's good news for us.

It has happened where coachs move within a BCS conference, not sure about Big Ten School to Big Ten school...(Off the top of my head)

Tommy Tuberville from Ole Miss to Auburn
Tom O'Brien from Boston College to NC State

Off the top of my head here are the recent BT coaches to leave for another BCS level job: (Again, you can find plenty of examples outside of the Big Ten i.e. Mack Brown from NC to Texas or Rick Neuheisel from Colorado to Washington or Rich Rod from WVU to Michigan or Mark Dantonio from Cincinnati to MSU or Brian Kelly from Cincinnati to ND and our own Glen Mason from Kansas).

Nick Saban left Michigan State for LSU
Gary Barnett left NW for Colorado
Lou Hoax left Minnesota for Notre Dame

Also within a conference, Larry Smith left Arizona for USC in 1986. Houston Nutt left Arkansas for Ole Miss two years ago.

Glen Mason left Minnesota for Ohio Sta....nevermind.

Could they leave for one of those jobs? Sure, but if they're the right fit here for now, I'm okay with that possibility.

I also never faulted Mason for trying to get the OSU job (it was the others that bothered me).

Still, is it LIKELY to happen? PSU and Michigan are two of the premier college football coaching jobs in the country and there will be a ton of very highly qualified candidates interested in them. We think Golden wants the PSU job, but there are others already at PSU who might be in better position for it. I also think Harbaugh and maybe others might be on Michigan's short list ahead of Hoke if RichRod gets fired at some point.

I would hope Maturi would be smart enough to make it very, very difficult for such a thing to happen (for example, double the buyout to go to another Big Ten school). Also, if he and Bruinicks are going to be giving seven or eight year contracts, again, I would hope they are making it next to impossible for a coach to leave before the end of year four.

That all said, lets hope whoever is hired has enough success that he is wanted by these other schools.
