Go to the Alamo Bowl site and vote....

guessing that people are lazy, more ppl might go vote if a link is provided

Means little really, if we have multiple BCS participants. 4th place Big Ten team will probably be MSU.

My meaningless vote is cast.

Sweet. We're winning now.

This bowl is a good example of the disparity in individual team's conference rankings and how that correlation nearly always puts the Big Ten at a disadvantage. The Big 12's 3rd team after BCS versus the Big 12 4th team after BCS. In reality this game will pit the 4th place finisher in the Big 12 versus the 6th place team in the Big Ten (assuming the Big Ten gets 2 BCS bids as usual and the Big 12 receives 1). In the past, after the Big Ten is forced to 'play up' a couple spots in most of their bowls the nationwide media rips the Big Ten for losing a lot of games. They fail to consider the relative disparity in their analysis. On top of this the Big Ten's top bowl tie ins feature two games against the SEC, the Rose Bowl against the Pac-Ten (which is usually a home game for USC), and two games against the Big 12.

How come the Big Ten is the only conference denied the pleasure beating up the punching bag that is the Big East conference? It doesn't seem fair.

uh, its not meaningless. the folks at the alamo bowl will choose who plays in their bowl. if minnesota fans show the most support then it might sway the people who make the decisions. not saying it is likely, but "meaningless" it is not.

It is meaningless

This has been done before. The Alamo Bowl has passed the Gophers for consideration at least twice in recent history. One year, it looked like a lock. Now, as a lame duck Big 10 sponsor, they would like nothing less than our Gopher following to be in San Antonio. About 5 years ago, "we" won a similar internet vote. Means squat.

I'm not trying to rip the gophs, and agree that going to the Alamo Bowl would be an upgrade, simply because it's a new years day (well day after new years day) bowl game and the U hasn't been to one of those in a long while. However, does it really change anything on how the season went? What i'm saying is, are Brewster haters all of the sudden going to switch directions because the Gophs went to the Alamo Bowl?

Hater for me is too strong despite what some believe, but going to the Alamo or the Insight means little. 66 teams out of 120, with possibly more after today, are bowl-eligible. There are too many bowls by 25 or so. It is completely diluted.

So you've already drawn conclusions about our bowl game? Intelligent. The difference in bowls makes a big difference; 1 money, 2 program appearance that it is headed in the right direction. I'd rather the folks at ESPN mention us in the offseason as an 'up and coming program' because that will help recruiting. And they will if we go to the Alamo bowl and put up even a half descent game.

So doogie I gotta ask can you see the forest from the trees?

He's right. Too many bowls. I'll take it though. We need the extra practice!!!

Side note: we don't deserve a january bowl. We need to be in a forgotten, unnecessary bowl so that Brewster can get his head out of his Claven and understand what he needs to do to not be another Mason. ... or something.

Doesn't the Big Ten split the bowl $$ evenly among the schools?

Would you rather be in a bowl, or be at home? I don't know if they changed the rules, but I know that last year, the players got nice little gift packages from the bowls they played in, like Sony and Best Buy gifts cards and flat-screen televisions.

I don't follow your line of thinking. Why wouldn't I want the Gophers to go to a bowl game? In fact I want to go to the best bowl game possible regardless of the Gophers deserving it or the match up.

You don't follow my line of thinking because I meant to quote Doogie and I quoted you instead. I completely agree with you, but I'm a dullard, so I wouldn't take that as a compliment.

Rather be in a bowl, but the 15 practices mean little ... see last year ... and the gift bags are great for the players, but what does that have to do with anything?

Actually, I think the 15 extra practices would be very helpful to our offense. They really need
the extra time to work together as I think they are still very confused with this system.
Strangely enough, they were clicking on all cylinders earlier in the year vs. MSU and Weber
looked like an All Big-Ten QB, but somewhere, things really got fouled up on offense along
the way.

These practices hopefully will right some of the wrongs. The game itself means very little to
me whether we win or lose but the best thing about it is it can hopefully erase some of the bad
taste in the coaches, players and fans mouths from the last couple games. Hopefully we can
end the season on a positive note which will help Brewster in recruiting and get us all a little
more excited about next season!!

The Big Ten does share bowl revenue but the Big Ten doesn't share exposure. For that reason alone going to a bowl game is significant and going to the Alamo that is played on Jan2 on ESPN is MUCH more significant than going to the Insight which is stuck on the obscure NFL network and is played at the same time as the Peach Bowl on ESPN.

hahaha that made me laugh so take that as a compliment.
