I think that one of the problems the Gophers have at the end of games scoring under duress. So I pose a question. Suppose we have the ball down by 2 with 15 seconds to go. Who should be on the floor and what should we try to do? I feel like right now there is no one player on the team than we can rely upon to give us a really good chance to score.

What would you guys do?

Thats our exact problem

especially on the road. Westbrook tries to be that guy and sometimes is but its hard for a guy barely over six feet tall . We need one of the twin towers to be a force in crunch time.

Have Hoffarber fall on his back and shoot from half court. He'd probably make that.

In reality I think Sampson will be our guy soon. I've seen a lot of improvement from him this year.

This has been the problem for years now. We need to land a 4 or 5 star recruit who can put the team on his back with seconds left. Westbrook can do it once every 4 or 5 games, but we need someone who could do it night in and night out.

Like Devoe Joseph, RSIII, Rodney Williams or Royce White? They were all 4 and 5 star recruits

white would be the guy

We do not have a consistent Go2guy. Everyone points to Westbrook vs Wisc, that was last year! That is not a GO2 guy you can count on game in game out. Even Iverson had a great half vs Butler! Point is that we don't have one and Tubby's half court offense requires one to be successful. Look at that pathetic play by Al Nolen at the end of the Mich State game? He had no chance to score.

Unless White comes back or we land Cory Joseph, we may be in trouble for a couple years.

I've seen some nice improvement in Nolen's ability to get to the basket this year when he wants to. He doesn't finish well, but I think he can and will as he does it more. If we're simply talking about the ability to get a decent shot with time ticking away i think we're Ok. DJ isn't so bad at that either if the refs ignore his extra step anyway, nor is Paul Carter.

Plus, we do have three guys dropping threes at over 40%, four if you want to count Carter.

We really just need more team confidence in such situations, and I think we're vastly more confident on the offensive side now than at anytime since Tubby has been here which tells me we're finally starting to get a feel for Tubby's offense. We might be OK in a couple of weeks.

White would be the guy if he ever plays for us. Westbrook has proven he can do it every once and a while (see penn state, Wisconsin games) BUT he has also proven he can't do it even 75% of the time. If he is hot Westbrook is a go to guy, but if he isn't he is a 6th men at best. We need someone who is a star 80% of the time, instead of a star 20% of the time.

We've had them in the past. Can't seem to attract one ever since Clem trashed the program. Gotta find one, sign him, and then keep him happy, eligible, healthy, and legal.
