Girl Kicker in WI 2nd team all state

If shes got enough of a leg I'd have no problem having her on our team.

Sounds like just another feel good story manufactured bu another sh!tty paper. I didn't see her record but I highly doubt she's any better than many kickers at the same level.

Wonderful idea. We don't have enough problems as it is? Get real. You would have her replace Kip Smith?

I bet she's more manly than Kip. And don't hear me wrong, I'm not calling the girl manly.

Interesting point of law here. The U was involved in quite the embroglio a few years back by allowing a female to try out for kicker. They gave her a shot for S & G, she did very well, and they chuckled and said, "ha ha, don't think so." There was a lawsuit and the following rule ensued: you can bar girls from the team outright, but if you give a girl a shot it has to be a fair shot. You can't just ban them because of their gender once you open the door.

Didn't we already have one of those?

oh, wait, no, he was just english. :)

Didn't something similar to that happen at Colorado under Gary Barnett?

I know it happened with the Texas State Fightin Armadillos. They had some girl named Kathy Ireland kicking for them, she was really good.

Here it is

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/bigten/2003-04-18-minnesota-no-female_x.htm

It was Dan Nystrom's younger sister. I biffed the facts a bit (it has been 6 years since I read the case). What happened was that they put an ad in the paper for kicker tryouts. When you do that, you have to give everyone an equal chance unless you say "men only". Since they invited everyone to try out, they couldn't deny her a chance just because she was a girl.

EDIT- fyi, the article doesn't tell the entire story. If my horrible memory serves, they were required to give her a formal tryout.

Interesting, seems like the ad wasn't clear enough to stop her from trying out. Regardless, I wouldn't care if the player was a guy, girl, or animal if they can make long, consistent kicks they are more than welcome to be on the team.

Only 2-4 on field goals? I don't know if you can judge her talent with such few attempts.
