Get this guy a helmet and some pads

He's got a shot at the Olympic team as he's beaten the #1 ranked US guy at his weight recently. Wonder what his plans are after that...

Pro Wraslin' after he wins the Gold this summer!!

Oh the marketing fun they'd have with that storyline.

Nah, he's going to be winning Olympic gold medals.

If he wanted to go the football route, he would've done like Trevor Laws.

Gable is a freak athlete. So strong and quick. Big. Could definitely see him playing D1 football. Wrestlers know how to tackle

That's always our problem the best potential football players at the U are doing other stuff...Gable Steveson (talk about a name born to wrassle), Brock Lesnar, Jarvis Omersa, Janel McCarville
/s?

Odds are they'd all get their butts kicked on the field by current players.

I would love to see them try but ... not high odds of it working out imo.

I know Lesnar whiffed trying to start off from scratch at the NFL level, but Gable, if he added 10-20 pounds in the weight room and kept his remarkable flexibility and athleticism, might be an interesting inside OL guy at the college level. A shorter, stockier, stronger and perhaps more explosive Renner? It would be an interesting experiment—use Itavion Brown’s scholarship?—though Gable will get pulled in other directions I’m sure.

He definitely has options. Can sign a million dollar contract with WWE if he makes the Olympic team. UFC another option if he wants to follow in the footsteps of a previous gopher heavyweight champion.

Brock Lesnar tried out for the Vikings as a DL and got abused. Same thing would happen to Gable.
Gable is much smarter than Lesnar. All Lesnar wanted to do was fight. Wasn't paying attention to the skill set of the game and other basic fundamentals that makes you a good football player.

I'd be curious to see what would happen if he were to try out for spring ball or fall ball just to get a handle on the game. From there make a decision what direction to go. I don't have a clue how much wrestlers make, but I would think he would have a better lifestyle to concentrate on as opposed to wrestling.

Watching him do that back flip after winning the title was crazy ! He's obviously extremely athletic.

With his skill set, quickness and strength, if he were an adept student of DL technique and strategy, he might live in our opponents’ backfield. Hardest thing would teach him to respect gap discipline.

That's only part of the problem. The best potential football players who grow up in Minnesota who actually play football don't typically want to play football at Minnesota. And if that's the case.....I prefer if they wrestle here.

Never played football in college and then went to training camp at the NFL. What did they expect?
The same thing people would expect from Gable. They think if a person is large, strong, athletic and used to tangling with people that they can just walk onto a football team and make a difference against other large, strong, athletic football players who have been practicing a particular technique for a dozen years or so (ex Dig Dan).

as a side not, I lost a lot of respect for Lesnar when he skipped a once in a lifetime opportunity to wrestle in the Olympics to go right to the WWE. That was always going to be there. Selfish.

Why is that "selfish"?....it's his life, his call...

True. Poorly worded. I believe he will regret the chance to compete in the Olympics at some point. In his discipline, it was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

There are a few semi-related things that casual fans will eternally speculate on and believe in: A track star would look great in a football uniform blowing by defensive backs as a wide receiver. An overpowering college football team could maybe beat a bottom feeding NFL team head to head. An athletic big 'rassler would probably look like a ninja overpowering and side stepping offensive linemen.

While football does offer some late blooming opportunities for athletes and does not require early age skill set acquisition like many other sports (Hockey - skating, basketball - shooting, etc.) - it regularly proves that it isn't easy/common for players to fall off turnip trucks and thrive in it after high school. The required job of colliding with another human body at top speed isn't a natural act and quite simply, some people take to it while it never becomes natural for others regardless of how big, strong, or fast that they might be. And that is to say nothing of the techniques and skills built over years required to excel at the sport. Count me among those that would see this as Lesnar II.

Picking the game up in junior high or even high school is one thing. Doing it at the D1 or NFL level is quite another story.

"...it regularly proves that it isn't easy/common for players to fall off turnip trucks and thrive in it after high school..."

This quote from Schaunzer made me think of the story (or legend) behind the recruitment of Bronko Nagurski...he was plowing for planting the turnips...

He probably could've been Aaron Donald.

But like others have said, I agree that he couldn't just decide to do that now. Would've need to make the choice to commit to football by high school.

Lesnar when he skipped a once in a lifetime opportunity to wrestle in the Olympics
This could easily be true ... but it wouldn't be simply because he was NCAA champion.

He'd first have to beat out whoever was the leading US national heavyweight at that time, for either Greco-Roman or Freestyle (which could be the same person, not sure). And neither of those styles is the same as done in the NCAA.

Then you have to factor in who in the world would've been the medal contenders, and if Lesnar would've had a chance in hell of beating those guys.
