Get that dad gum chili hot!

someone asked on another thread about a recent comment made on jim souhan's radio show...

something to the effect that joel maturi may regret having hired brewster...

the only reason souhan mentioned this...is because he knows what is being discussed behind closed doors in the athletic department...maturi is not happy...and neither is bruiniks, for that matter...:mad::mad:

here is a suggested path forward for brewster, if he wants to keep his job going into 2010...

1. win

2. knock off the twittering/tweeting nonsense, especially as it relates to being personal and derogatory toward an overweight, local sports writer

3. stop suggesting in public ways that football 'is the most important sport' at the 'u'...this type of activity does not endear you to your peers, or to your superiors...

4. quit recruiting so many football players with academic and/or character question marks

5. stop running off players who don't look like they will be all-conference...commitment is a two-way street...

6. don't make the 'u' write another check to an assistant coach that you don't want around any more...the dunbar decision was a very poor reflection of you...not of dunbar...:mad::mad:

7. be a team player

8. view your student-athletes as more than just cattle

8. grow up :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

now, these are not my suggestions...these come from those who have a say over brewster's continued employment at the 'u'....but i cannot find fault with anything on this (partial) list...

btw, brewster is not the only big 11 football coach who might feel his chair begin to heat up in the months ahead...bret bielema had better take advantage of his light schedule in 2009, if you know what i mean...:D:D:D

p.s. i personally do not care how you like your chili :rolleyes::rolleyes:

What does this post have to do with the YouTube video posted above :( ???

I could not agree more, this is what you should expect from all of your coaches at every university.

You've got an ax to grind with Brewster and are willing to throw out several half-truths to try and pull your point together. I'm not saying all your points are invalid - I'm a Brewster fan and I think that a couple are pretty accurate - but some are kinda laughable. I digress though. It's your opinion and it's what a message board is designed for. But, if you had all this to get off your chest, you really should have just started your own thread instead of hijacking this one.

Welcome to what will soon turn into the lamest thread ever....

here come the masonites! well, the thirty or so that are still left out there. they are a small but vocal bunch aren't they?!?!

dinkything.....gophergod....nervous gopher......etc.....etc.....you guys are so tiring and predictable.......YAWN

my advice if you even care to hear it: please don't respond to this nonsense. dinkything and gophergod are just trying to bait some people here because they need attention today.

I am far from a Masonite, but thanks for playing and try again next time. I was not trying to bait anyone by the way just agreeing with a post. However, if I was I guess you took the bait because you responded. Another example of do as I say and not as I do?

Round and round we go...

At least you're not at the NWA carousel in Seattle. Never takes less than half an hour for your bags to show up. Worst one I've been at.

stolen from Buck Bravo

No doubt this will be a tough season with games against Air Force, California, Syracuse, Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue, Northwestern, Iowa and South Dakota State. Coach Brewster deserves our all out support in my opinion. He has tried everything possible to recruit and inspire us with a competitive team. Give him a break. Better yet, give him support as it will be a very demanding season. This is a defining third year for him and his program. He has had some tough breaks with the coaching staff and some of the players leaving, but he is our coach and our team needs our support. I feel that the negativism and sarcasm in some of the media wear down our coaches and our fans. Where is the support?

We have a big ten team and we play visibly on a national level. What a great asset for the university and our community. Minnesota is on the map!

Love him or leave him, coach Mason put together a competitive team and some great victories were earned by the gophers over his ten years as head coach. Can you imagine the pressure he faced with responsibility for around 100 players and coaches, and back at that time a less than supportive administration? Constantly recruiting with the dome as his draw. We know there are almost as many local detractors as there are supporters for gopher football. Remember the previous administration and the failure to get the stadium going? The ruthless press incessantly criticizing the coach even when he was at 7 or 8 victories.

Get behind the team now, they need us more than ever. The players are going to face brutal competition, cheer them on in the outstanding new venue. Most of all, rise above the Minnesota disease known as pessimism and refuse to give up on this team or this program. Show the country this is a great team at a great university in a great state. It is the best we have, and our support will make it better. Do we really want another coach to leave?

Can’t wait to see the gophers in the new stadium playing the best teams in the country. Go Gophers!!!

...well...now that you've asked...:D:D:D

I'm sorry, but who quotes Jim F'ing Souhan on matters related to college football? (especially Gopher football)

He knows almost nothing about college football. I am embarassed for him and Brad Lane when they try to talk about it. They know even less about Gopher football.

Brewster's job is safer than yours is. Safer than Souhan's too. Get a clue.

To get back on topic:

Brewster's best quote: "There is no substitute for emotion..."

Oh so true.

It probably is safer than Souhan's for multiple reasons. Souhan is a total hack, absolutely talentless as a columnist, and a waste of column space. Further, the Strib may go out of business in a year or two.

4. quit recruiting so many football players with academic and/or character question marks

care to jot down this vast list for me?

did you ever notice

That Wisconsin football players only start getting arrested after they finish their senior year? Could it be they get preferential treatment as players?

first off, this video is a year old but thanks for posting. Secondly dinkythings post is full of lies and some half truths and an ounce of facts. Brewster did not write that post about Pat, Football IS the most important sport at most Universities, Who are the questionable character athletes? Who has he run off? and list one example of an instance where he is not a team player and needs to grow up (based on fact and not rumor or he said she said)

All you anti Brewster people need to build a bridge and get over it and stop bashing our Head coach with lies.

...Who has he run off? and list one example of an instance where he is not a team player and needs to grow up (based on fact and not rumor or he said she said)

he is in the process of running another off the team ...a local 3 star kid ...let's see if the young student-athlete makes it to fall camp...again, this is all coming from within the 'department'...

hey d-bag who is specializes in spreading unsubstantiated innuendo....

you are worse than the know nothing media "sources" who kept getting all of the vikings-favre crap wrong this week. so please go join in the fishing opener and fall off a long dock. and don't wear a life jacket!

YOU DON'T KNOW JACK SH!T BUD!!!

so what are you: wren jr.? wren's brother? pantherhawk III? nervous gopher's twin?

also, enough with the emoticons in every single post! your overuse of them is pretty lame.

Are you talking about Nance? He's not being run off, if he is in fact leaving (which is just rumor at the moment) he's doing it on his own because he knows his playing time will be limited and because he'd rather play basketball. I'm guessing Brewster would love to keep him around.

Yea...cause he's going to run off a CDH kid at the same time he's trying to sign the #1 recruit in the nation who just happens to go to CDH. That makes sense.

You're an idiot.

you're wrong on both counts...

1. it's not me 'talking'...these are the walls of the athletic dep't talkin'...:D:D:D

2. nope...it's not john nance, who was a 2-star...the earlier post referred to a 3-star....:D:D:D

i'm not gonna say anything more about this situation involving the 3-star (or any other football department 'situation') for now...but you'll know when the 3-star situation 'happens'....:eek::eek:

as far as john nance is concerned, his days as a gopher footballer were numbered the day michael floyd committed to being a domer:mad::mad::mad:

Nance was two star. The prospective pool of three stars is Shady Salamon, Ryan Orton, Trey Davis, Chris Bunders and Adam Webber.
