Anyone else notice that surface lot C79 is no longer available for tailgating? I swear when they first opened that lot earlier this year it was allowed.

Is the U just terrified of any fun actually happening on game days or is just me?

Yeah, what a crock of sh*t?! The online parking map (as of a couple months ago) clearly showed that C79 surface lot (adjacent to the Oak St. ramp) as being available this season for day-of-game parking and tailgating. In the hard copy map included with season tickets, it's shown as available for $20 day-of-game parking, but not 'gating. Seriously.... either way, I WILL drink my tail off before the game, but this is just typical U overzealous caution for no real reason.

The U absolutely messed up this part of the gameday experience for the new stadium.
You want to know why Target Field is all the rage? Because people go there, tie one on, and have a blast enjoying the new stadium with a thick buzz.
The same thing could have been encouraged at TCF and the dry stadium retained by making tailgating cheap and accessible for the common fans in as big of numbers as possible. Make it a party off the bat, get people to show up because it's a great time regardless of the product on the field, then down the road raise prices little by little in chock full lots.
They didn't do this in any way whatsoever and had empty spots everywhere in the tailgating lots and if this is a sign of the times, it appears they are worsening the situation by reducing the number of lots people could have an opportunity to use. Frickin shame.

Target Field is so popular because it is an awesome building and the team is really doing well.

It's also a huge party every night game, if the team was .500 I think people would still sell it out on friday nights just for that aspect.
The Bank is a great building too, and the tailgating lots are great, just too empty and too expensive to fill with the younger crowd.

So the lot next to the Oak Street Ramp is now NOT going to be available for first come/first serve tailgating? I didn't go to the 'U', and really didn't follow it much beyond the athletic teams but I am beginning to understand what a red taped, foot-shooting, mess it can be (as told by others for years).

It sounds like they are going to extra lengths to make sure parking, and for sure tailgating are as difficult as possible.

Sheesh.

Slightly disagree about Target Field but your comments about the University messing up the rollout of TCF Bank Stadium is spot-on.

Hopefully for the students and youngun's sakes the U fixes this problem. They wondered why the student section didn't fill out as much as it could have.. Lack of tailgating is 100% the reason why.

IF true, this situation is totally FUBAR. Are you KIDDING me?! You advertise something as clearly being an option, and then pull it out from under people at the last second. My friend and I were actually considering abandoning our current parking situation in favor of showing up early to the tailgate lot every week. Luckily we decided against that at the last minute, but I'd imagine there are folks out there who might have done differently...

Target Field also has a lot of empty seats. People spending time in the private club rooms, public clubs and people viewing from the concourse. Much the same as TCF.

Except at Target Field people aren't standing in line for food because the people behind the counter are using their fingers and toes to add up the cost.
