Am relieved that the Gophers were about the only bubbler to earn a big scalp last night.

Though I'd never be in favor of expanding (or shrinking) the NCAA Tournament field, Parrish is dead on about the final few at-larges this year. When it gets down to disecting those last few at-large bids, teams have a lot of warts. But really, that's the way it is most every year.

Now or when he arrived?

I think he was talking about where we are as of right now, today. And, it would make sense, because that's where we are: Right in the middle.

Check back in a year or two and that could change in a positive way (at least, hopefully!!!):D

because Jodie Meeks, Patrick Patterson and three midgets with no arms should be able to beat Georgia in a must-win game at Rupp Arena

Nice

What I like about the 65 team format isn't that they all deserve to be in. It's that it's difficult to figure out who deserves to be in and it's hard to miss with so many. Plus it rewards the better teams with an easy opponent for the first game. Plus it creates drama with some unexpected upsets. so for me I'm OK with the number exceeding the actual number of quality teams.

?? when is the last time a bubble team made the final four??

Best I can come up with is Maybe Jim Valvano, NC State; or Rollie Masimino(sp) at Villanova? Both won it all.

UNC in 2000, back when Guthridge was their coach. They were an 8 seed I believe and need to win a few in the last week to get in for sure.

Wasn't there an 8-seed that made the Final Four a few years back? If so, they were probably a high bubble team. I'm probably full of shit for thinking that....

Anyway, can you imagine, now, what would happen if college FOOTBALL did a 12-team playoff? Argh.

65 teams is plenty, and I'm all for keeping it how it is. It seems to me that it's about right.

Didn't George Mason make it to the final four? I'm probably wrong but I thought this was the case.

Hmmm it ssems like people are rather forgetful. Does George Mason ring a bell? 2006?

Indiana made it to the Championship Game at a #8 seed, didn't they? They lost to Maryland, if I rdemember correctly.

Bubble teams that made it far

UNC and Wisconsin both made the Final Four as 8 seeds the year that Michigan State won the national title.

George Mason was an 11 seed, one of the last at large teams in and a controversial pick in their conference as Hofstra had swept them and had a very good regular season record, but were not selected for the tourney.

In 1986, LSU was an 11 seed also.

The year Indiana made it to the championship game, they were a 6 seed (I strongly believe, not for certain though-I know they weren't an 8).

Villanova is the lowest seeded team to ever win the title as an 8 seed back in 1985, which was the first year of the 64 team format.

Good reason for it....and if it makes more money for the schools involved, increase it to 128 and start on the same Tuesday as the 64/65 play in game. One night would have us down to 64 anyway. Money talks, but all it ever says to me is "Good Bye".
