If you look at the matchups, this was absolutely a must-win. ACC should probably end up 6-5 now, and the whole ire for the Big Ten's loss can go right onto the Gopher's shoulders. We've not only managed to embarrass ourselves tonight, but also the entire conference. And all because of a complete lack of effort.

I don't think I've been more upset at our Gopher basketball players and coaching staff after a game than I am tonight.

Won't matter in the end. The big ten still probably gets 5 maybe 6 teams in the big dance.

Disappointed the Gophers didn't hold up their end of the bargain for the Big Ten and I still think the Big Ten can win this thing, but in the end all that matters is the Gophers making the NCAA Tournament and being good enough to be a factor once they get there.

As Bo Ryan said after beating Duke last year to clinch the Challenge for the Big Ten (and I'm paraphrasing): "That's great and everything, but I'm just glad we (Wisconsin) won for ourselves."

SS, did you read Jason King's take on the game last night?

Minnesota’s loss to Virginia – Monday’s 87-79 setback against the Cavaliers was the worst loss by a Big Ten team this season for several reasons. The game was played on Minnesota’s home court and Virginia is considered one of the two or three worst teams in the ACC. The Cavaliers lost by 21 points to Stanford and 43 points to Washington. This was bad for Tubby Smith, bad for the Gophers and bad for the conference.

I'm only taking off my maroon and gold sunglasses for a moment..

Would you agree with this assessment?

I'd say it's more bad for the Gophers than it is for the Big Ten. The Gophers have done their fair share of heavy lifting for the Big Ten (wins over UNC & West Virginia) this season, so there's no need to apologize for the loss to UVa. I guess the question is, are teams allowed to have a bad night once in a while?

Must admit, losing to a team that lost by 21 to a bad Stanford team is a little frustrating, but I'm not big into comparative scores. Sometimes it's more important when you play a team than who you're playing. The Gophers caught Virginia on a very good night for them and perhaps we got a little bit fat & sassy after a pretty impressive first half. The result? We got schooled after the break.

When it's part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and a game the conference is counting on you to win, it's bad for the conference when you lose. The Big Ten could have the Challenge sewn up now if not for the Gophers and Hawkeyes letting big leads slip away. For a school like Michigan to lose all the rest of their big nonconference games is fine because they won the only one that counts towards the Challenge.

Gophers loss may cost the B10 from winning the challenge. just devastating.

Big 10 went 4-1 last night and even lowly Iowa managed to show up. They lost, but it took a comeback on their own floor by Wake and a buzzer beater to do it. Uggggg. This loss to a crappy Virginia team is even tougher to swallow two days later.

People outside of ESPN execs really get worked up about this? Who knew?

Hey, look what I just read in "From the Barn, A Gopher basketball blog":

Ugh. Just one of those games that frustrates you from getting beat and not being able to do anything about it.

Some people spell it U-g-h while others use U-g-g-g-g. Who knew?

Really? Wake Forest is a terrible team, and yet the Hawkeyes let them shoot over 50% FG, and 47% 3-point? I blame the Hawkeyes...but hey, that's just me.

It's pretty simple tonight. If the Big Ten can hold serve at home (Badgers & Penn State), they win for the 2nd straight year. A gut feeling says Penn State will deliver. I'm not convinced the Nitts are as bad as a lot of people think.

I agree. UW will probably get us to 5 and thats it. But who cares? B10 beats the ACC in any other sport except baseball. And I would imagine the B10 is still widely seen as the best conference.
