Apologize if this has already been posted, but I found this information on game day traffic management and thought some here might find it of interest. I’m happy to see that they will be using traffic control officers and adjusting stop lights to facilitate traffic flow. I have always felt that they could greatly improve the traffic flow before and after basketball and hockey games by taking those two steps. I am sure there will be a lot of trial and error, but it looks like there is at least a plan in place to try to make things go as smoothly as possible. (The link also includes information on shuttles and other parking/transportation issues.):

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) and other University departments have joined with local and state transportation officials to create a comprehensive parking and traffic plan for Gopher football fans to give you the best campus travel experience possible.

PTS has developed a traffic management plan designed to ease congestion and ensure safe, efficient movement through campus on game-days.

Traffic control officers will be positioned at key intersections, parking access points and pedestrian crossings to ensure safe, efficient movement through these critical areas.

The City of Minneapolis will implement a special event signal timing plan to accommodate pregame and post game traffic surges.

The University of Minnesota will operate portable changeable message signs on key roadways to communicate parking availability and alert drivers of event related road closures or detours.

The University will construct an on-campus traffic management center to monitor Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) video feeds from Mn/DOT’s traffic cameras key interchanges entering campus. This will enable University personnel to respond to traffic incidents and congestion more rapidly and communicate issues to the public via roadway changeable message signs and the University websites.

On-street parking will be temporarily restricted at select locations during football games to promote efficient traffic flows.

Some streets immediately adjacent to TCF Bank Stadium will be partially or fully closed during football games to accommodate large pedestrian volumes before and after events.

At the dome, I liked to stay after the game to listen to the band. By the time the band was done playing, the big crush of people would be gone. Post game activities would spread out the traffic leaving the stadium do it wasn't one giant mass of people trying to all drive home at once. Pregame activities would encourage some to arrive early, thus spreading out the traffic of people arriving.

All the Planning, All The Manpower

The end result, The University of Minnesota Marching Band will not be marching down University Avenue. That aint right.

I thought they were going to March down university? it will be a shame if they do not.

You must not have been reading the board much about a month ago. There were like, 6 threads that contained arguments on it. :)
