Has to be the muffed punt by Jones. Absolutely killed us

Or the 2 fumbles by Leidner. For a team that was so good in the turnover battle all year, we couldn't have that.

I still go back to the fake punt. De'Vondre Campbell has a wide open lane to take down the big fella and takes a terrible angle. If he makes that play we have great field position up 7 already. It completely flipped momentum, gave Missouri some confidence, and was a huge negative in terms of field position.

For me it was the onside kick, muffed punt and the huge run by Hansbrough.

Leidner's fumbles were unfortunate but they didn't kill us.

Lots of bad execution and misplays but I agree the game changer was the muffed punt.

Now that I think about it, probably agree. That's almost a guaranteed TD for us with the way we were running the ball.

Anything special teams related.

To me, the game changing play was their punt to put the gophers near their own goal line. The field advantage changed on that, and the moment shifted after that. They couldn't get anything going until we gave them the ball at the 50. Mortell had a couple chances to pin them deep also, but today, he played terrible.

Jones punt fumble. He is not so good back there.

Just out-coached today, which is a disappointment for a team that is supposed to be coached so well. The fake punt and the onside kick were big. I think those only resulted in 6 points, but who knows how many points it prevented the Gophers from getting. I also don't know what the penalties and yardage ended up as, but I remember one point in the second half, the Gophers had something like 6 for 45 yards, and Missouri only had 1 for 5.

Worst special teams game ever under Kill. Mortell's worst game. A couple of untimely and critical penalties (Wilson's late hit). Boat load of turnovers.

What struck me was the SEC West Champion had fake punt, onside kick and tried another fake FG. The Gophers seem a little slow to realize they can play with anybody. Probably idiot media opinions.

Mitch is making some progress and with a few plays here and there we win that game easily.

Next year should be fun.

The mistakes killed the Gophers today, way to many poor plays on Special teams and Mortell was brutal today with his kicks. Game changing plays in this order, first fumble by Leidner, fake punt gave Missouri momentum and filed position, the muffed punt to Jones really turned the field possession game after the onside kick. Absolutely hated how coach Kill ended the first half at the 45 yard line burning so much time and having two timeouts in the pocket. Sorry call it smart coaching all you want but the game of football is a momentum game, after the hustle play that Max Williams made on that getting the first down with that much effort, you don't lie down in the fetal position and give up at the end of the half. I completely disagree that is safe or smart football, that decision was the wrong one to send to the kids. Your in the game even after all of the turnovers and problems and then the head coach chicken bleeped out out on his players. A lot of todays loss falls squarely on Kill. For all of the butt kissing he and his accolades had it handed to him today by coach Pinkel. Gophers got out coached plain and simple.

Well stated.

Why was Marcus Jones fielding that punt? I think it was the first punt he fielded all year, and Craig James was back on the next one.

He's had six punt returns this year, most were early in the season.

Agree with every word of GopherDude's post, above. The fans around me were just dazed by the sequence prior to the half, and honestly we never got it back once they nailed us with the onside to start the 2nd. Mizzou was dictating to us from that point on, even though the score got close for a time. Our "D" just wore out, and Hansbrough took advantage.

I believe we fans need to put this coaching staff on notice...pick it up in big games, or else. We've come a fair piece under them, no doubt. But this ain't nearly good enough! Doggone it...I'm pissed how this thing went down today. Especially after Mauk stood over an injured Wells & taunted him for a moment. Disgusting.

The fake punt had nothing to do with coaching. We were in position to stop that play and just didn't execute.

Mortell's worst game.

Mortell: 5 punts, 40.8 yard average, one touchback, one inside the 20.

Murphy (accounting for all punt returns): 3 punt returns, 8 total yards, 2.7 yard average.

I don't think that was the problem today.

This is it for me.

Me, too. My wife was all over that one. She called out the change in momentum the instant it happened. I was hoping she was wrong, but she wasn't.

Without a doubt. The momentum changed right there. Still can't believe they had the guts to do that.

The killer sequence was Mitch overthrowing Fruechte for a certain TD and then fumbling the next snap.

Boom.
