I see today where Vanderbilt bought out a 2018 game with UMass so they can look for a game against a power 5 opponent. I think we have a spot available in 2018 and I sure wish the Gophers would call about this. A home-and-home with an SEC foe would get us more exposure down south where Kill is focusing more of his recruiting time. Would love a game against an SEC team.

That would be a good one. Nashville would be a haul but not impossible.

A series vs Vandy would do about as much for our exposure as another one with MTSU.

I highly doubt it will happen. You almost never see a SEC team play a Big Ten team in a big ten stadium.

Vandy played at Northwestern in 2012 and at Michigan in 2006 -- cancelled a game at Ohio State that was supposed to be played last year. They've also played at UCONN and Miami (OH) the past few years. They may be most likely of any SEC team to travel north.

+1 I like this idea.

Gotta remember who was coaching them at that time though...

While for the most part I would say that has been true, the landscape of college football is changing. LSU is going to Wisconsin. Georgia has a home and home with Notre Dame in Big10 country. Missouri has a series coming up with Purdue. As for the post above comparing Vandy to MTSU, I'll admit that playing Vandy certainly wouldn't be the same as lining up against Alabama, but it would be a game against a power five opponent. I'd much rather play Vandy than Eastern Illinois, MTSU or San Jose State.

Vandy is the perfect Power 5 opponent for us. Should be little chance for a loss, but nobody can complain about scheduling. Until we are a national title contender, the point of the non-conference should be to get wins to make a bowl game.

I think Vandy would be a good choice to have on the schedule, but they are a weak enough team, I would not want them to be the premier out-of-conference opponent. I would still like to have a better major conference team or a mid-major with a recent history of major success for a quality, competitive game before the Big 10 schedule.
