Iowa is bringing in the nation's 21st best recruiting class to go along with the already young and talented Hawkeye squad.. I think Fran McCaffery has this thing going in the right direction and I see them challenging for an NCAA tournament bid next year but maybe coming short then look out the year after that.

Fans of every team usually think their team is on the rise and getting better. The problem is so are the other 11 teams in the conference. You can have a good team, but when you have to go against teams coached by Tom Izzo, Matt Painter, Tubby Smith, and Thad Matta and teams like Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, it is awfully tough to move up the Big Ten. That's why I think Tim Miles, while probably a great coach, will not do well at Nebraska, and that also probably played a part in Shaka Smart turning down Illinois. McCaffery did a good job in the Big Ten this year, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't improve upon that 8-10 Big Ten record any time soon.

Iowa is definitely trending in the right direction. They could reach the tourney next year. Gesell is a huge upgrade to Cartwright. Fun team to watch as well. Oglesby would have been nice to have in Maroon & Gold. Real deal shooter already and his game will expand.

Woodbury could give them a scoring presence in the post very much like Zeller gave Indiana this year which would make a big difference.

+1. The Big 10 is loaded now, and might be even more loaded next year.

It's unfortunate Iowa doesn't seem to be an automatic win any more. Heck, the 2 Iowa losses this year cost the Gophers being in the NCAA conversation and possibly even a bid.

Just to clarify I am not a Iowa fan, I was just surprised to see they had such a solid recruiting class and was curious what others thought about their future.

I could see Iowa finishig 8-10 or 9-9 in the conference. The key for them will be not having bad nonconference loses, if they can cut down on losing to teams like Campbell, maybe beat ISU, Drake and the likes they'll be in good shape

I was reading the Hawkeyereport during Iowa HS tournament time and one poster who attended the games was not impressed with Woodbury. He is thin, does not run well and weak. I would imagine he will improve but like alot of HS bigs(see EE) he may not help much. Losing Gatens is like Northwestern losing Shurna. When Gatens played well, the Hawkeyes did well. When he was in effect not there, they stunk. Their young players will have to improve alot to be a tournament team.
