I was on the Maturi conference call for all of about five minutes before being disconnected in the middle of Gerald Meyer's rant regarding priority seating.

Oh well - hopefully this didn't happen to everyone and someone will provide a recap(?).

Thanks

conference call

I sat in for about 10 minutes then had to leave. Is there a podcast available somewhere?

Grimm said it would be on the non premium on www.gophersports.com

I tuned in the last 15 mintues which was interesting. Maturi sounded well versed and handled questions very well. I will be listening next time as 98% of the listeners said they wanted more.

They mentioned at the end it would be put up on gophersports. I just checked and it doesn't look like they've got it up yet.

Since it was for all gopher athletic season ticket holders a lot, a number of callers asked about basketball (non conference schedule, and new seating points) and hockey (seating). I caught the last 40 minutes or so and the football questions I heard were mostly about seating, the price of tailgate lots (gonna see how it goes this year and then evaluate the situation.), and the new conference divisions.

He indicated they had settled on the divisions, they aren't geographical but he had become convinced that splitting up tOSU, Neb, Mich and Penn State to be the best way to do split it up. He also mentioned more than once that they should release the divisions in a couple of weeks and said that Gopher fans should be pleased.

My take: If we're pleased that would mean that Floyd and the Axe stay on the schedule every year. Other than that its a crap shoot as to what would happen. :)

Yep, for me anything short of Bucky and Herky every year would be anger, not pleased.

I read that to mean the Gophers are in a division with Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin or Iowa, and have a protected game with the one not in our division.

Since Maturi makes me convinced that Michigan is in our conference and this wont be an even west/east split. lets just do a NW/SE split

NW
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Nebraska
Michigan
Michigan State

SE
Penn State
Ohio State
Northwestern
Purdue
Illinois
Indiana

I can live with these divisions even though I think the NW division is much more difficult. In the eyes of the powers, all they care about are the 4 big money teams and this achieves the goal of splitting them up. If they don't go straight East/West, this is the alignment I want.

Everyone knows there will be bitching no matter what the final decision is, but the only way I'll be severely discouraged is if we are in the same division as Ohio State. They are really the only Big 10 team that is immune to down turns...they may have a season where they are not quite as dominate, but they will almost always win the division they are in. As long as we are in division without Ohio State, I feel like we could be rewarded with a division championship if we have a really solid team. With Ohio State, it would almost always be more of a fluke to get it done.

This too

I doubt very much that we will be in the same division as both WI and IA. That doesn't mean we won't play them both just about every year. We will play one every year because WI and IA will be in different divisions. IMO anyway.

I like this set up but I bet Wisky is switched out with Northwestern or Illinois. The SE is really weak after PSU tOSU

DONE!!! Let's sign the paperwork. That is about the best draw Purdue can realistically expect. Send that setup to B10 HQ NOW!!!

These are most certainly NOT the divisions and I have no idea why you say Maturi suggested Michigan is in our conference. All signs are pointing to Minnesota in a horrific mix with OSU, PSU, Purdue, Indiana and Wisconsin. I certainly hope you are right but Iowa and Wisconsin are definitely going to be split up.

Maturi said that Gopher fans will be pleased with the setup

The only setup that won't please fans will be OSU-PSU in our division.

That makes me assume that we will be in the Michigan-Nebraska division,

Maturi would have said "Gopher fans will be pleased" even if the team was moved to Conference USA. The coward would also sign off on the move without hesitation, if a bully told him it was for the best.

No offense but that assumption is ludicrous. His statement probably meant that we will be playing Wisconsin every year (in our division) and Iowa every year (as our protected rivalry).

That's what I took from it too.

"Pleased" means we play Wisky and Iowa every year, nothing more. It probably also means that Barry Alvarez likes it as Maturi likes to make sure Barry is pleased before making a decision.
