Does anybody know who is going to back up Hoese at FB?

Thank you. I don't know anything about Ed Cotton, does anybody have the scoop? A walk-on I presume?

Yes, he's a walk-on from Champlin Park (same school and class as Maresh). He was ineligible last year after he transferred from Concordia.

Adam Weber wouldn't be a bad option if Gray wins the QB job.

does it matter? we are talking about the fullback position, it can be filled by a tackling dummy.

Somewhere Thomas Tapeh is shaking his head vigorously in disagreement.

Thomas Tapeh could have been a Halfback but with our stud running backs someone had to play fullback. The same goes for Justin Valentine, his talents were completely wasted at the fullback position.

I don't agree with bankonit, but fullback is a dying position. Many NFL teams do not even carry a fullback on their roster. The position has been replaced by an extra WR or an h-back. Many teams use a player from another position (a la Eric Small) down by the goal line if a blocker in the backfield is needed.

It's not really a dying breed for the power running game (in college especially).

Ed Cotton was a pretty decent college football player. The Gophers also have Willie Schneider on their roster, and he was always a pretty tough kid at Cretin, I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed for the backup spot. (with our depth at LB, I wouldn't be shocked to see Ryan Grant move to LB either).

fixed*

what? our LB situation is the deepest it has ever been in decades with lots of talent and promise

yep, it was a typo....

I meant to type "with our", not "without".

Valentine wasn't used enough (that is true), but that wasn't because he should have been a tailback. Valentine was way too slow for the starting tailback position. Too small for TE. Where else should he have played?

never said Valentine should have been the only RB or starting, but maybe have him on short yardage or put him in motion and pass him the ball, he had good hands. He was very underutilized being a FB and never getting the ball.
