In DL 65's absence, here is a poor-man's DL 65 recap. Clayes filled in for Kill at the beginning as HC was addressing the team, then Kill came in for the second shift. Here is a recap. It's not verbatim, but close:

Claeys on the game…We really did (see this coming) as a staff. I told the staff that I screwed things up last year. Ever since the first year when we got beat 58-0, we’ve made this a red letter game where we knew we had to get better. The kids played hard, executed and won the game. It’s a lot of fun to have the Little Brown Jug in the Twin Cities.

Claeys on early penalties…Sometimes penalties go your way, sometimes they don’t. We didn’t lose that much field position. We were able to overcome them. We’ll address it in practice. It’s a lot easier to fix those problems when you win a trophy game.

Claeys on Leidner’s play...He made some big plays for us. He had fun for the first time out there. Great job by the offense to control the football.

Claeys on the O-line…We’ve had some kids banged up, up front. Michigan has some big kids. Our guys up front got off the football. David Cobb took the holes. We were more the aggressor and took it too them.

Clayes on Botticelli…Cameron disrupted all day. He was close to 2-3 other games as well. He was a kid who was a freshman when we lost 58-0. For the seniors, to put in that work they did. Cameron never did get the respect he deserves. I couldn’t be happier for him with the success he had yesterday.

Claeys on offensive game plan…We found something that worked. This game comes down to finding a weakness in somebody and keep pounding it. The bootlegs were big. Our guys on offense did some great things and taking advantage of what the defense gave us.

Claeys on the off week…The off week is good for two reasons. You bring a trophy back, you worry about getting back to focus. Now our guys get a few days to walk around with a smile on their face and we’ll get guys healthy. It’s important for the whole state of Minnesota to enjoy this for a few days.

Kill on player reaction…I apologize for being a little late. I had to be with the players .We had a meeting where I said we had to heal up, get mentally ready and we need a big crowd in two weeks as that’s going to be huge. We want the kids to get a picture with the Brow Jug today.

Kill on Botticelli…He’s an underrated player, he plays hard. A NFL friend of mine called and said you can win a lot of games with a guy like him. He’s a handful on the field and he loves the game, a very loyal guy.

Kill on Leidner and Williams being healthy…No doubt that is huge. Mitch was very composed, he was relaxed and had fun. David Cobb takes a load off those guys. We kept them off balance. Football is won up front and that is why we won the game.

Kill on Cobb…I’m not going to trade him for anybody. He’s playing at a very high level. He’s very patient. The great ones are patient. He gets better as the game goes on.

Kill on reaction to lack of passing game before yesterday…The beauty is I don’t read anything. We knew we had to get healthy. We’ve had a good plan all along and we executed. Yesterday had nothing to do with coaching, the kids win games.

Kill on team health from yesterday…Derrick Wells got hurt yesterday. We’ll have to see how his hamstring goes. Hopefully the off week will help him, but we’ll have to see. Our kicking game was great yesterday. Pete did a good job and Craig James fielding punts in The Big House.

Kill on Jack Lynn…He’s kind of the forgotten guy, but he’s playing as well as anybody and he’s playing his butt off.

Kill on team schedule…They get off today, then they will work with coaches tomorrow on film. Then coaches go on the road (to recruit), then the coordinators and coach Kill will run practice, Saturday we’ll have off, Sunday we’ll start for the next game. We’ll get healthy and then go into Northwestern. I can’t emphasize how much we appreciate the fans support. We need the fans at the Northwestern game. We need that place rocking.

Kill on The Jug...We'll make The Jug available for everyone to take pictures with it. This is the State of Minnesota's team and we want them to see The Jug.

Go Gophers!!

Awesome job Bleed. Thanks!

Great quotes from Kill. Giving all the credit to the players.

Really hope Wells heals up this week!

Kill gets it. And I believe he has taught Pitino. These two guys get what this state wants. This is how you build rabid support. Well, this, and winning, so you can do this......

Lol, Pitino was trained in diapers how to handle media, fans and boosters. He was literally and figuratively raised for this job. He learned it three decades before he met Coach Kill. But yes, I agree otherwise.

I think this is HUGE. Easy for me to say from a distance but I REALLY hope TCF is full and rocking for Northwestern. A loss would be devastating.

I agree with most of this, of course. But I'm guessing that Kill emphasized to him that we are possibly the most provincial fan base in the country and the whole state is available for massaging, not just the immediate local area. That's all.

Thanks for the recap Bleed. People like you aways save the day for me for this report. Again thanks for your time.

Tubby is a much better name than tiny.

Good one Dr.Don - I haven't given out a "wreny" award of a while but because of your comment I am awarding it to you. It definitely made me laugh. I am also giving tinyarch one for his supporting role.

Ya, most athletes wear a jock with a cup. Tiny wears a rubberband and a thimble.

Before the game the Billd's will be warning the folks in front of us in 212 that we will be LOUD on every Wildcat down.

Two weeks will seem like forever.

Go Gophers!

Great recap Bleed. I am glad to see Botticelli get some recognition for his outstanding play yesterday. Lots of guys on the defense really played well yesterday. It felt like they had 12 (or more) players on the field because they seemed to be rushing 5 or more each play, yet there were always two guys around the ball in coverage. About the only negative you could say about the defense yesterday is that they didn't catch some of those interception opportunities.

I think this is great time for a bye for the program. Too many times an impressive win seems to be followed by an equally devastating loss. Plenty of time to enjoy getting the Jug and then get re-focused on Northwestern.
