If WI had beaten MSU, they would be ranked #1 or #2 right now and have a clear path to the national championship.

Thank you Sparty. Thank you.

Yep, they're a dang good team. It pains me terribly to say it, but it's true.

And +100 to thanking Sparty for saving us from the chest thumping that, for some reason, they would have done on our site.

Wisky is probably the best in the B10, and yes I believe if they had beaten MSU they could be on their way to the BCS title game. On a similar note, if Nebraska had not crapped the bed at home against a bad (for them) Texas team, they would be in the same boat.

This to me is what makes college football better than the NFL. Every single week is vitally important.

Then again, if they lose the TWO games that they won because their opponent missed an XP, nobody is even remotely talking about Wisconsin right now. And now it looks like they get to face a Northwestern team without Dan Persa, who was starting to look like the best QB in the BT.

Fine line between winning and losing....

If WI wins out, and Oregon loses (play rivalry game vs. OSU still), Auburn loses (plays Bama and South Carolina), and Boise loses a game (plays Fresno, 18th ranked Nevada, and someone else), then WI will be playing TCU (only plays 1-9 New Mex State) in the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP(!!!!!!!), and there isn't a bolt of lightening strong enough to bring me back to consciousness if that happens.

What makes you think that Wisconsin would jump LSU and Stanford?

Wisconsin needs at least 5 teams to lose for them to make the National Championship game (Oregon, Auburn, Boise State, LSU, Stanford) to get a shot at that game. Even then there is no guarantee that OSU wouldn't be able to jump them in the polls. Even if Wisc. was undefeated they would probably be behind Auburn and Oregon.

I read this and I had to double check - yes, Stanford and LSU are currently ahead of WI in the BCS (sigh). I had read an article in the Strib quickly today before getting on a plane and it said that WI is ranked fifth in several polls - but, thank goodness, not currently in the one that matters.

Thanks!~

I agree. Maybe this is the year when Wisconsin's atrocious non-conference schedule works against them?

Absolutely - despite being 5th in the human polls, Wisconsin is 12th in the computer polls (sadly, playing us didn't help that number). Even if they were undefeated, they would no doubt be 3rd, at best, behind Oregon (2nd in computers) and Auburn (1st in computers). Even Missouri (11th) is ahead of Wisconsin in the computer rankings, and they have 2 losses and are 16th in the human polls.

Well, it's not exactly like Auburn's got anything over Sconnie so far as non-conference schedules go, playing Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe and Chattanooga. In my opinion it's kind of shameful and embarrassing that a football power the caliber of Auburn is playing two Sun Belt Conference teams in their non-con schedule, but that's the way the college football world has gone and now virtually everyone schedules a slate filled with creampuffs in their non-conference schedule.

At least Oregon played at Tennessee which probably looked like a heck of a challenge at the time they scheduled it, but their other non-conference opponents were New Mexico and Portland State, and in those games UO outscored their opponents 141-0, so they are obviously desiring opponents which will be completely non-competitive, all to look better for the BCS computers.

The computers don't account for margin of victory, that is the Humans. Plus I would give a pass to several of the SEC teams for scheduling cupcakes (as well as BigTen teams) their in conference schedule is tough enough. The SEC West is brutal this year (not so much the East).

Ah, ok. Still though, Auburn's non-conference schedule is worse than Wisconsin's in my opinion. I mean that's just sad. Clemson, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State and Chattanooga vs. Sconnies slate of UNLV, San Jose State, Arizona State, and Austin Peay. Both are sad lineups, but IMO Auburn's is just a bit 'sadder'. ;)

Sagarin ratings

Auburn

Clemson - 45
Louisiana-Monroe - 153
Arkansas St. - 135
Chattanooga - 99

Avg. - 108

Wisconsin

UNLV - 134
San Jose St. - 155
Arizona St. - 29
Austin Peay - 224

Avg. - 135.5

The first three for each are a wash, but Chattanooga is a much better team than Austin Peay. In fact, according to the ratings, they were the strongest non-BCS team scheduled by either school. This contest is fairly easily in Auburn's favor.

Good point. I was going mainly off the fact that (in my opinion anyway) the WAC and Mountain West are superior conferences to the Sun Belt, but I just took a look at the W-L records of Sconnies opponents, and it ain't pretty.

UNLV: 2-8
San Jose State: 1-9
Arizona State: 4-6
Austin Peay: 2-8

Yikes! I guess Sconnie wasn't able to schedule the Little Sisters of the Poor this year! Ahhh well, maybe they can get 'em next year. ;)

Stanford and LSU would also have to lose.
