So who were we most impressed with in the game yesterday as far as our first year players?

For me the two that stood out were Jacobs and Cooper. I also noticed Carpenters name in quite a bit.

First year players

- I thought Cooper stood out - nice to see a hint that next year's linebacking corps will be okay.
- Still waiting to see Hayo have a breakout game - has he even had a catch?
- Also happy with Whaley's addition to the depth of choices at running back.
- Jacobs isn't a first-year guy, but I liked what I saw of him as well.

I did say first year players. I was wrong about Jacobs, but it is Hayo's first year here, and I believe Cooper is Red Shirt as well.

the post is titled "freshmen" sorry. I am impressed with Carter and Bryant Allen

Cooper is a redshirt freshman. I have been very pleased with the progress of both Jacobs and Cooper. Jacobs is much more physical than I expected him to be at this point. I think that Cooper is going to make a ton of plays with more experience. We will surely need him with all of the linebackers we are losing next year.

Whaley is starting to look like he is our best option at running back. He is a more physical runner than Eskridge and Bennett and seems like he has very good field vision. I would expect that he will take over as the top back by the end of the year.

I could have had a more well thought out post, no doubt. Mostly I'm just trying to see what people are thinking about some of the underclassmen. Probably shouldn't have referenced a JUCO kid either.

Has anybody kept an eye on Carter? I'm guessing he is doing ok, he doesn't seem to be getting picked on when he's out there.

Hayo Needs to step up!

I have to hand it to Brew for talking up Hayo Carpenter! I mean I thought he was the next Jerry Rice with all of Brew's talk. Either Carpenter sucks or Jed needs to get him the damn ball!

Brew talked up Pittman, too. Sid asked if he was doing playing and Brew evaded the question and hinted that he is ok in practice. Whenever they ask Brew if any freshman played or how many, he never knows the answer. Does he even know who is playing?

Anyway, I vote for Whaley and Cooper as two who impressed. Both are redshirt freshmen. I liked Allen's potential, but he doesn't get used much. Carter gets spot duty. The way Sherrels has been playing off receivers, why not give Carter a shot?

Wasted Year!

Brew has totally wasted a year of eligibility for Gray! He doesn't even play and it sure would be nice to have him for four years of starting at QB!

Maybe if we had a team with nothing to lose, but this team is senior driven, and built to win now. We are better off having someone quarterback the team who has solid leadership and experience than someone who has never started before and has been questioned before for his lack of ability to lead a team. Next year would be perfect for Marquise to get some looks but he is too much of a liability for our team right now.
