According to ESPN it is basically a done deal that Franklin will move from Vandy to Penn State. He will be a great hire and think will get Penn State back to the top quickly. If you can make Vandy competitive in the SEC ... you should be able to do well at Penn State.

It's hard to imagine what an upperclassman feels like at PSU. They probably had JoePa in their living room. They probably had no idea who Jerry Sandusky is. Now, a few years later, they will be playing for their third head coach.
The kids that stuck through all of this had no idea what was about to happen. They had an out given to them by the NCAA, but very few took them up on the offer to transfer. Now, these kids will be in transition again. This time there are no options. I'm sure it will work out for some, but others probably regret that they didn't get out while the getting was good.

I can't remember where I saw it or heard it. Probably ESPN, but a Penn State recruit said O'Brien told him personally that he wasn't leaving Penn State when the rumors started about him going to Houston. I don't know how you can look a kid in the eye and say that.

Bad news for us; Franklin is a first rate talent and with Penn State's resources, will build a winner.

Barreiro's take was that Franklin seems like a short timer and his best guess is that Franklin will use PSU to springboard to a better job.

The ESPN report said that he was from the state of Penn. and he was more interested in Penn State than other jobs because he thought he could win a national title out of there.

thats not bad, this conference needs it, plus there not even in our division so i don't know why you would be worried, that is actually ideal since them getting better will boost the prestige of the conference and we will be able to say we play in the big ten while we don't have to actually play them

That was Thomas Holley. He's obviously bummed that O'Brien left but has kept his commitment so far and will listen to Franklin's pitch.

Franklin is a good coach who sparked things at Vandy. He'll probably do well at Penn State. Have to disagree with Barreiro a bit, because Penn State is still a destination job for the right guy and if Franklin--who is from Pennsylvania--gets his feet under him, he could be a real hero there.

USA Today is writing about the rape scandal involving four of Vandy's players that occurred under Franklin's watch, but Franklin dismissed the kids and wasn't involved, so that seems to be grasping at straws.

While I'm not falling out of my chair, I am a bit surprised that the pro-Paterno faction appears to still be on the outside looking in on this hire. I thought for sure Golden or Munchak would be the guy.

Good hire for Penn State, it does seem a bit unseemly to me the way Franklin is now poaching Vandy recruits though.

Franklin: "This is my dream job." I'm glad they're in the other division, with their 85k stadium, rich tradition and Franklin.

Did Kill go head to head with Fanklin and win any recruiting battles? I was thinking McDonald was a Vandy commit.

Yes, McDonald did have interest in Vandy. I believe it was between us and Vandy. I thought he had verballed to Vandy at one point, then chose to come to the U, but I am not 100% on that.

Verbal here about a year before signing day --> Decommit --> Commit to Vandy (Juneish?) --> Decommit --> Recommit here a couple weeks before signing day

That's what my memory tells me - it's Monday and I'm being too lazy to actually corroborate with research.

Haha! I hear you on that last part Dpo!

Great hire for them.

I was hearing his name thrown around for the Vikings job.
