per Fox Sports:

George O'Leary is giving strong consideration to stepping down this season, multiple sources close to the program have told FOX Sports.

That move could happen as early as after the Knights' opening game against Penn State on Aug. 30 in Ireland, with his protege Brent Key getting to take over the program.

Go Gophers!!

He's certainly a great coach who has proven himself over and over. What he did last year with UCF was very impressive. Hope he gets to enjoy his twilight years for much longer than most coaches who retire late...

Maligned and forced to resign from the Notre Dame job for a resume error, Coach O'Leary can flat out coach. He built the program at UCF and they were special last year. Nothing special from Notre Dame since the resignation.

They almost had to fire him when it blew up and became front page news. That said, from the convenience 13 years later, it was likely a mistake. I remember at the time thinking it was odd that they hired him for his coaching acumen and not for his supposed masters that he didn't really have. Yet that cost him his job. Still a better outcome then Mike Price and "Roll Tide".

Resume error makes it sound like he had a typo. He systematically embellished his resume.

He is a great coach who never had anything handed to him, and likely therefore felt he needed to pad his resume to be hired at a few jobs. It caught up with him, but didn't change the fact that he can coach.

why should gopher fans care?
