Most cliches are rooted in some truth, so Urban Meyer acknowledged he is concerned about how Ohio State will follow up winning the biggest game of the season so far.

The Buckeyes, who beat Michigan State 49-37 Saturday night to take hold of the Big Ten East divisional race and put themselves back in the discussion for the College Football Playoff, will take on Minnesota at noon Eastern this Saturday.

After one winning season from 2006-2012, the Golden Gophers have already clinched their third in a row under head coach Jerry Kill. They improved to 7-2 with a 51-14 thrashing of Iowa last week to claim the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy and remain in a three-way tie with Nebraska and Wisconsin atop the Big Ten West.

The Golden Gophers are too good for this to be labeled a trap game, but Ohio State could be susceptible to a letdown after such an emotionally charged victory.

Meyer called Kill a long-time friend but noted he has never coached against him before. The Buckeyes and Gophers last faced each other in 2010, a 52-10 Ohio State victory that included a coaching matchup of interim coach Jeff Horton facing Jim Tressel's Buckeyes.

"It's everything you'd think of a Jerry Kill coached team -- relentless effort, very well coached. I haven't studied their offense yet, but special teams and defense are very good. Statistically, they're very good, and to do that to Iowa, who I think Iowa is a heck of a team, they've got some momentum right now."

Go Gophers!!

What.....Jerry Kill is a "long-time friend....." That's a new one on me. I've heard Kill talk about a lot of his friends in the coaching community, and I've never heard him mention Meyer. Most of Kill's coaching pals tend to be guys who worked in the Midwest - and that's not Meyer. Every time I hear Meyer open his mouth, I'm more convinced the guy is in love with himself.

By long time friend, he means he once gave Kill an autographed photo of himself.

Meyer is from Toledo, Ohio, he was an assistant coach for thirteen years, and he head-coached at Bowling Green (MAC) in 2001 and 2002. I'm sure Meyer's and Kill's paths have crossed.

What do you mean by "paths have crossed." The article clearly says they haven't coached against each other. Meyer has never been mentioned by JK (that I recall) as a "friend." Maybe I'm overly sensitive but I'm pretty sure Meyer is trying to cover up the fact that he doesn't know JK and they run in different circles. I want this win more than any in JK's career.

Thanks for reminding us that coaches can only cross paths on the field while playing against each other.

I think that the word friend gets a bit over used. I do suspect that they have met at various coaching events and are acquaintances on good terms. To call them friends is a stretch.

Gosh, that's so nice of you to express appreciation for this, but I think you missed my point. Thanks anyway and you're most certainly welcome. I'll try to find other things to remind you of, too, if you'd like.

Just to chime in on the subject.....

I once asked a current Gopher assistant coach at an event if Bielema was as big a jack@ss he he appeared to be. He kind of chuckled, and then said something similar to "he can seem to come off that way, but he really isn't as bad a guy as most fans think he is."

However, he then said, without provocation, that it's pretty much accepted among the coaching community that "Urban Meyer, is a pr!ck! Urban has one main focus, and that's Urban!"

The coaching fraternity is very tight. Big Ten coaches meet as a group at least once a year and have conference calls every week. Coaches all attend a national convention together that is basically a big drinking party. The definition of friend is a pretty loose one but I would bet Kill and Meyer have been in the same place together many times over the years so they may know each other better than you would think even though they have never faced on the football field.

The coaching fraternity is tight. Doesn't mean they're "friends."

I think my point is that Meyer said they were "friends." I'm convinced, despite all the evidence you presented, they are NOT.

I take "friends" in this case to be like the friends you may have on Facebook, where you met at some event or something and chatted, but literally never talk or write to each other outside of that except to wish them a happy birthday on their wall once a year.

Also, Kill seems like a dude who can get along with a whole lot of people, even people that others think are trash. So it wouldn't surprise me anyway.
