Former MD AD used school funds to hire lawyer for players

It may have been against protocol but schools ought to provide counsel to all parties otherwise the following makes little sense:

“Anderson's actions showed "a serious lack of judgment in a sexual misconduct case, given the university's commitment to a fair and impartial handling of all such matters," the spokesman told the Post on Thursday.”

The MN case had paid outside experts weighing in vs the players, and school general counsel controlling what evidence could be introduced and what questions were allowable in addition to setting arbitrary time limits on the defense. That’s far more outrageous.

Here is the original report (which is being cited in the OP link): https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...18/08/23/3a10faae-a739-11e8-97ce-cc9042272f07

Anderson has already resigned, I guess this is supposed to explain why. It does say that Durkin reached out to the firm, but at the direction of Anderson.

So not sure if this is going to end up being relevant going forward. Though possibly another bullet point, if Maryland decides to attempt firing Durkin for cause.

and then failed to sever ties with the attorney when asked to do so

Holy ****, that's just straight up insubordination. How do you **** that up?

MD needs some policies and procedures and house cleaning. Durkin also a few years ago reached out to a student's professor about his grades too wasn't he?

This is **** that even without rules you should know not to do....

Well, Anderson is gone. If Durkin was Anderson's guy ... yeah, given the incident and what all else has come to light ... might not be much else left to do but to just fire Durkin now/soon, and then gut the staff at the end of the season. Hire new AD, and let him pick his guy for head coach.

I'm really surprised the AD played along enough to get caught AND kept at it like that.

That's what bagmen and "rouge boosters" are for....

Yeah I don't really get that part of it. Maybe Anderson thought he was too big for his britches, didn't have to listen, etc? Who knows ...

Anyway, I guess Maryland already hired a new AD back in June: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-as-athletic-director/?utm_term=.6cfecb09ad66

So I'm guessing this guy is already working back-channels trying to feel out who might be interested in the Maryland job starting in 2019.

Yeah he should have a good list going for sure.... granted I think all AD's have a list, but this one should be pretty serious.
