K.J. Maye, the Gophers’ leading receiver in 2015, has signed a contract with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, the team announced Sunday.

Maye, who wasn’t selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, was with the New York Giants in training camp and was on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad last season. Earlier this summer, he had a stint with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League.

Maye joins former Minnesota safety Damarius Travis on the Patriots. Travis was signed as an un-drafted free agent when the 2017 NFL Draft concluded last April.

Go Gophers!!

I always thought that KJ might have looked a lot better had we been able to get him the ball more often.

KJ is a good fit for the Patriot's offense. They like getting the ball to those little slot receivers.

And (I hesitate to say this, but) it will be a upgrade in the level of QB play that Maye is used to.

I really see KJ in the Wes Welker/Julian Edelman mold.

He had 73 receptions his SR year. That's good for 2nd most in a season all time behind only Decker.

He had a great senior season. That catch he made on 4th down against Michigan on what should have been a game winning drive was one of many outstanding ones.
