“I really want to stay around here. I would love to play for the Timberwolves’ affiliate,” Springs said. “Truly I want to be in Minnesota a little longer, so that’s why I would want to play for that team. Or with the Milwaukee or Chicago teams. Somewhere around here that I’m familiar with would be ideal.”
Springs made such an impression in his lone season with the Gophers that he’s still stopped all across the Twin Cities, he said.
Often, fans mention to him how much they enjoyed his buzzer-beating shot in February that helped beat Indiana 75-74 at Williams Arena. It’s a memory that Springs can’t help but laugh at, considering he was shooting 1 for 12 before that game-winning shot.
“Everyone brings that game up all excited, but that was my worst game,” Springs said. “I hit one shot. They’re like, ‘We loved the Indiana game.’ I’m like, ‘Do you really? Do you remember the whole sequence?’ ”
