Former #Badgers HC Barry Alvarez RIPS Badger “fans”, calls them “spoiled rotten” and more! This is so fun!!!

Old man yells at cloud crowd.

It's a different time, and Barry isn't wrong that things do take time.

At the same time Wisconsin hasn't shown much progress under Luke ... quite the opposite and fans are right to be concerned about that and say so.

When you've said wisconsin, you've said jack sh!t.

One man's spoiled rotten is another man's expectations that they're holding others to, I guess. Yes, Wisconsin football fans have been blessed with unprecedented success over the last 30+ years, but shouldn't Alvarez, the architect of that success, WANT everyone to hold those responsible for the stewardship of that program to the highest levels? That's how excellence is sustained. It's not by accepting mediocrity, and mediocre is what the Fickell years have been.

If this was 10 years ago I would think that Fickell deserves a little more grace but it today's portal world it isn't nearly as hard to build a team quickly. Look no further than Indiana.

You pretty much nailed it with the bolded comment.

2023 7-6 (5-4)
2024 5-7 (3-6)

This season could end up with a 2-7/1-8 B1G record. Opposite of progress.

Next year's schedule is about the easiest you can hope for in the B1G. But I doubt he will get the benefit of facing it.

The same fans who screamed for Chryst's head (in search of excellence) are now screaming for Fickell's head — in search of excellence.

Hmmmm... Is it just me, or is the Wisconsin program actually getting farther and farther away from 'excellence' each time they change coaches? Somewhere, Bo Pelini is smiling.

But, fans will be fans and they will continue to do fan stuff. To quote Vonnegut, so it goes.

Happens here too when we take losses.

I honestly think you hear from a somewhat different crowd after losses vs wins.

Some users only post around here after losses it seems.

I've noticed the same thing.

Some are simply trolls, obviously. But I have begun to think that there might be a subset of fans who — without realizing it — actually enjoy kvetching and complaining, for it's own sake.

True but the one difference for Wisconsin is I think their fans are really struggling to understand where they fit in this new college football landscape.

They had a really good run but the reality is that like us their ceiling is in that second tier with the hope of getting into the top tier from time to time. Nebraska fans have struggled with accepting this same reality for quite some time.

So when Chryst stopped winning double digit games every year they convinced themselves that he was the problem when in reality it probably had far more to do with the world of college football in this current era.

And on a side note.....could they really not afford to get a little more light on that set in the video.....looked like they were filming in some basement somewhere. :)

You are just now realizing that? There are people that are only happy when they have something to complain about and other people to make fun of...... :)

The whole atmosphere has changed when athletes are making as much as they do with NIL and the transfer rules changed. Before it was their fellow students that they were supporting that were not transferring every year. Now some are doing that just to chase the money. Now the average football player is making money the average student would die to have and seeing some of these same players transfer for more money makes it pretty tough to be as loyal to the program and its players. It's becoming more and more like pro sports and with that if players are paid and they are not performing, they likely will get booed. The whole NIL and transfer issue swung way too far to one side than it should have and has had a negative effect on college football and basketball IMHO.

Im probably more likely to post after losses. For me, if the Gophers win or things are going well, im usually talking about the game with the buddies in my game day crew and my family. If the Gophers lose or a fame is going poorly, y'all get exposed to my rants to spare my friends and family from it.

Frustration after loses and venting is totally expected on team message board like this. The posters that piss everyone off are the ones that ONLY show up after loses and their main focus is ripping on other posters who had the nerve to let a little glimmer of positivity into their lives.

I'll add this.

The emotional responses are usually the most brain dead of takes.

If someone wants to be critical and has some actual thought and detail. Awesome!

But post loss posts? "Should throw to the TE more!!!" Folks comparing PJ to Kill... Weird outdated concerns from like 10 years ago. That's most of what we get.

This is where I was going to go as well. Players can jump ship for money and better opportunity to develop to the next level, that is fine, why shouldn’t the fans call a program out when they fall and fail.

I remember some folks thought it was taboo to boo in a college game because the players weren’t getting paid, just playing for the love of the game. That is gone at P4 level, more pressure and demands on coaches (how many million a year) and players who can go to the highest bidder every year if they wish. Not a big booer here but, I get it.

Good post, 46.

There will never be a true sense of loyalty attached to - or reciprocally received from - many college players that fans now consider as mercenaries in our new version of the sport.

The romanticism of college football has been essentially snuffed out...and I find it inconceivable that it will ever be restored. It's a damn shame.

“Never interrupt your enemy while he is making a mistake.” - Maybe Sun Tzu?

Anyway, if I am Wisconsin I would think pretty hard before I pull the plug. Fickell has a sizable buyout and he has been plagued with bad luck at the qb position. Who is dying to go to Madison who would be an automatic upgrade? I have heard Dabo, the Kansas coach or the coach at New Mexico who is an alum. someone on reddit suggested signing Thomas Hammock to a 3 year contract for little or no money while they absorb the cost of the buyout and if he succeeds great! Fickell is not a Brewster analog but the circumstances are somewhat similar albeit Chryst had way more success than Mase. Now if Phil Parker could get hit by a bus we’d be in the catbird seat. Jk
