Florida, Georgia, WVU, South Carolina, Utah, Iowa, Oklahoma St, Oregon, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraksa, Oklahoma, Ohio St, Missouri, and Miami are some of the better teams that some of these kids have offers from. Many of these school offered more then just one kid that chose the gophers too. Florida offered 3 of them. Iowa offered 4.

I had been wanting to compile a list of high-profile offers our guys got. Good job btown! Any kid good enough for those teams is good enough for my team.

Here is another thought on the "forget stars" path.

Using Rivals rankings, here are the # of commits that were at least 5.7 (just one point from being a 4 star) using schools close to us.

Minnesota
Total commits: 20
5.7 or higher: 11
Percentage: 55%

Nebraska
Total commits: 20
5.7 or higher: 11
Percentage: 55%

Wisconsin
Total commits: 21
5.7 or higher: 7
Percentage: 33%

Iowa
Total commits: 19
5.7 or higher: 3
Percentage: 16%

Iowa State
Total commits: 23
5.7 or higher: 1
Percentage: 4%

This is really impressive, especially for us to stay on par with Nebraska in Pelini's first full year of recruiting.

#39

I think the class is good, but we hired Brewster to RECRUIT. he delivered on signing day last year with the #17 ranked recruting class in the nation.

This year? well not so much. Better than before him, but not very good by the standards and goals he's set out himself.

I'm happy with the players we've gotten, but disappointed overall. I've been told that we can overlook his massive shortcomings in coaching because he's delivering, but this is middle of the pack delivering, not delivering so much that his inability to coach will be overcome by the players on the field.

The next season is going to be difficult. The schedule gets tougher. We'll have new systems on O and D. I've learned that when we have a new system it is only reasonable to ignore the results because hey, its new for the kids (your posts people). I've learned that when Brewster hires guys that are promising but unproven as coordinators (Withers and now Fisch) that he doesn't have the knowledge or know how to help them which was why he was going to hire only top quality coordinators in the first place with tons of experience. And i've seen with my own eyes for two years that we get outcoached consistently and save Roof's work with the defense we wouldn't have nearly had the success we did last year.

I guess the good news is that after next year, we'll only need two more years before we can accurately evaluate Brewsters contribution to the program.

Hmmmmmmm. Interesting - thanks for compiling and posting

Please try to stay on topic with the thread title.

How many times does the ranking have to be explained? The big reason we are 39th is because of lack of scholarships. If you can't see how this class is still much better than what we've had in the past, then you're just no paying attention. The goals Brewster set for recruiting was to bring in faster and more athletic players. He did that once again this year.

As for the coaching part, I agree that there needs to be a lot of improvement. We'll see what happens.

Looking at the teams ahead of us, 15 signed 22 or fewer. Aside from ole miss (do they have a signing limit) if we're getting what we paid for we should b higher Than #39 regardless of the number signed.

Just ask Clemson

Wait untill Brew cant actually have a recruit stand on the sidelines on gameday or be in the biggest locker room without a hard hat on. "The tour" was cool and all but nothing can replace the true excitement TCF will put into a recruit. Everyone can quote me now and save it, but I'm saying next years class is going to be this programs best in its last 30 years, maybe ever. (hard to prove that back when we were winning Rose bowls) For those of you who think Brew isn't doing the one thing that he is said to be good at, why would the premier recruiting service say this about him "one of the best recruiting head coaches in the business". I'm sure they don't know what they're talking about. ;)

It's not like Brew is getting paid a lot compared to other coaches. Looking at this class on paper and last years class on paper do you really think that this class is a lot worse? The big10 kicked it up a notch in recruiting this year with PSU, MSU, OSU, Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota all being in the top 40 and Wisconsin right on the cusp. Even NW and Indiana had pretty good classes by their standards. I think Brewsters classes will consistently be ranked in the top 40. Asking for top 25 finishes every year is a lot to ask for at this point. Brewster is recruiting basically on the same level as Zook so far (few spots ahead last year, few spots behind zook this year).

I think Cosgrove is gonna be big in recruiting also. You have to believe Cos has a lot more ties in the midwest then Roof did. It looks like the staff has been real active in the chicago area allready in preparing for the 2010 class.

Agree with GophersInIowa on this one, but from a different angle.

Yeah, we had less players sign this year. And we had less four-stars than last year. Having said that, we had a bevy of guys right on the cusp of four-star status according to Rivals. And while we're ranked 39 in recruiting this year, player-for-player, this class still blows away the vast majority of recruiting classes previous to Brewster in terms of individual player grades. Instead of middling three-stars and high two star prospects, we're now getting high three-star prospects as well as some low and middle level four-star players (Lipscomb, Carpenter, Carter). On top of that, we have a great shot at adding another four-star next week in Trabis Ward.

Overall, I like this class a lot. Lots of upside here. I think we'll be very athletic in two years. Not sure what this means for next year, but the fact that Brewster and co. are opening a new stadium will also help. If the team manages to win between 5-7 games next year and atmosphere at the new stadium is as good as some believe it to be, I think recruiting will be just fine over the next few years.
