For Wisconsin to make the Big 10 Championship Game

They clinch it with a win next week over Indiana. They could potentially go into the championship game with a 4-4 record and losing 3 of the last 4 games.

It's a good thing Delany didn't go with a strict geographical split for the divisions.

Ya know, because he wanted to preserve the competitive balance and all.

There should have been alternate terms for this year due to post-season ineligibility. Doesn't seem fair that Wisconsin is handed a cake-walk path to the Championship.

They should consider reformatting the divisions. Our side has 4 legitimate teams in Nebraska, MSU, Michigan, and Iowa.

After Penn State is done with their sanctions it will still take them a decade to get back to the program they were (If ever.) So they have Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Now is their chance to go East & West and get rid of the stupid Leaders & Legends names.

Shows you how lopsided the division is. They only have to play for third place. While they might have the luxury of Penn State not being eligible for a while, next year Ohio State is going to run wild in that division. I like that we are in the competitive division.

The legitimacy of teams will change from year to year, but you might want to check your 4 in our conference. I would say NU is more legit than Iowa and MSU.

Iowa is not legitimate. They will be lucky to go 4-4 in the Big Ten which will be just enough to get them to a bowl game. Not that I'm bragging. The Gophers will have to work to go 6-6. I assume every bowl eligible Big Ten team will get a bowl bid with Ohio State the Pent State ineligible.

I'd like to see some kind of rule where a team has to win at least 5 games to go to the conference championship. If there isn't one, then you take the top two teams from the other division. It will never, ever happen though.

When I said legitimate, I meant "established programs." Iowa barely made it in, but they have a pretty solid program down there. I wasn't really basing it on this year in particular.

Whiskey can go 3-5 in the conference and go to the title game. What a joke.

Northwestern more legit than MSU? Based on what?

Based on this year, they only have two common opponents (and we'll know soon enough who's more legit when they play each other). But Northwestern is 2-0 vs Indiana and Iowa (72 points for, 46 points against) and MSU is 1-1 (47 points for, 46 points against). So they got that going for them.

But overall, there's no way Northwestern is a better program than MSU over a 5-year period.

Or a Indiana lost. FTFY

If Indiana beats Iowa imagine the tension that will be in that game.

Good way to fix the problem. Schools should not cheat and thus become ineligible to win the conference title.

Wisconsin almost last a couple of there other non-conference games. If they had lost two of those, then they would have been 1-3 out of conference. If that had happened, and then they made their way into the conference title game with a 3-5 B1G record, they would be in a position to win the conference title with a 5-8 overall record. In that scenario, would they not be able to go to the Rose Bowl (given that they do not have the bowl eligible minimum 6 wins) or does winning a conference title game serve as an exception to the six win rule?

The NCAA issues a waiver to teams that finish under .500 but who win their conference title so that they can play in a bowl game.

The Penn State situation is, without doubt, the worst scandal in NCAA history. Nothing even comes close.

Did you mean the worst scandal in NCAA history in which the NCAA issued penalties without conducting an investigation? Without talking to Paterno or Spanier or Schultz or Curley or McQueary? What if Curley and Schultz are acquitted of perjury?

Paterno and his superiors knew about Sandusky and did nothing to stop him. Nothing else really matters. Institutional enabling of a child molester is worse than any academic, pay for play or gambling scandal could ever be no matter how widespread.

Penn State deserves the sanctions it got. It probably deserved worse. Having said that, most people who were involved in the program during those years weren't involved and had no knowledge of what was happening, so like most scandals, a lot of people have to pay the price for a few who were doing wrong. That happens all the time - the academic scandal here crushed the program for a decade and affected a lot of people who weren't involved. Is that a shame? Yes. But we deserved to get crushed by sanctions because we were cheating.

I think most agree, but even Wisconsin fans would have to agree it would be pretty crazy to be playing in the conference championship with a 4-4 record while a 6-2 or 7-1 from the other division wouldn't get that opportunity. Obviously, it is what it is, and Wisconsin will take it regardless of what their record is. It just could potentially be a weird situation.

North Texas (5-6) won the Sun Belt in 2001 and played in a bowl.
Last year, UCLA applied for an NCAA waiver prior to playing Oregon in the PAC 12 title game. They went to a bowl and finished with a 6-8 record.

USC was 7-2 / UCLA was 5-4 in the south. USC was ineligible due to sanctions.
