for the "fire brewster & staff" mouthbreathers (you all know who you are)...

don't get me wrong i am just as pissed at the loss today as anyone else. but, it is kind of hard to put total lack of game-plan execution (mainly by mason era juniors/seniors and mason era third year starting qb's) on the coaching staff. last i checked coaches were not allowed to play in the game. in the end it is always going to be on the players to go out there and make plays.

but, i digress. please continue with the truly embarassing "pitch-fork and torches" melt-downs/rants that we have come to expect from you each week. it provides great fodder as well as hilarious signature lines for some of our big ten brethren. at least you have that going for you.

Bronko will tell you when it's okay to b*tch and moan

Listen, Brewster is our coach. He'll be our coach at least through next year.

That said, he and his coaching staff didn't prepare the players he has to win this ballgame. Ohio State is not a great team. Minnesota should have had points twice in the first half. You're right, Brewster can't catch the dropped balls. But Brewster certainly should have an impact on all of the false start penalties. Brewster and his staff should have an effect on phantom blocks. Brewster and his staff should be able to have conrol of players on the sidelines. Brewster and his staff should have an effect on blown coverages that lead to wide open touchdowns.

You're right. Most of these guys are Mason recruits. Deal with it. That's what he's paid to do. In Year 3, we should be seeing improvement, and if the results are improving in the win column, at least there should be improvement in our games. So far, Year 3 has been a major disappointment. We've still got several games to go. Let's see if Brewster can rally the troops.

How is this year a major disappointment? Other than the Wisky game, what other outcomes did you expect? This is about where I thought we would be.

don't believe i told anyone, as you suggest, whether or not they can "bitch & moan". just trying to inject a little perspective and realistic reflection into the debate. but, i know that is generally frowned upon here by the "mouthbreathers", so i will stop it.

yeah, about where we expected in wins/losses, but did you expect us to get blown off the field by psu and osu w/o any semblance of competitive resistance? In a year with both programs are down, and the conf really down in general? I expected just a bit better, like a touchdown from our starters/leaders, a couple of sustained drives, a big play or two. A turnover that makes an impact. Perhaps I ask too much.

And you couldn't manage that without being so antagonistic?

You're just taking out your frustration on the board just the same as all the short-sighted fire Brewster threads.

I would say that if we lost close games, all the haters would be here bitching about how Brewster "can't get us over the top" or "Gray would've won that game"... and the apologists would be saying "at least we were close"... so the score doesn't really matter to me, and it really doesn't matter to the reactions that are on this board either.

I would have liked for the team to play better, but it really doesn't make a difference. Iowa's 17-16 victory over UNI is a distant memory to everyone and likewise our blowout losses won't matter if they are followed up with a few W's.

+1

How is Penn State "down"? Just because they lost to Iowa? And Ohio State? They've posted 2 shutouts this year(almost a third) and lost to USC(barely) and lost to a surprising Purdue team that came to play. That's like saying USC is down this year because they lost to a Pac-10 team... oh wait they do that almost every year. The only teams that are "down" are Illinois and Indiana with Indiana somewhat keeping it interesting. The league isn't down IMHO, it looks to me more like a power shift is beginning.

Come on, Bronko....don't trash my "pitchforks and torches/Frankenstein" reference from another post! Besides it had nothing to do with canning The Brew but rather instigating a Gopher Mob Melee should he announce Weber as the starter next week...which he will. :(

I figured we'd lose the last two games, but I did expect the team to show up. Unprepared, out played, out coached at a level that makes the tail end of the wacker era look good. That's why it is a major disappointment for me.

It's one thing to lose, its another to show no growth, no chance and for the first time under brewster, no heart.

Bingo. If your program is supposedly headed in the right direction, you are at least competitive in games like today and last week. Instead you have undisciplined players making stupid mistakes (Small) and yelling at coaches (Stoudimire).

Bronko, I like where you're head's at (especially in regards to knowing your teams player's names). Here's my two cents on Brew: I like him, and I think he's a very important part in the development of this football program, however, I do not believe he's our National Championship coach. I think people are realizing this and already calling for his head, which is not the solution, (look to the Mason-era QB and other players as well as the D-Coordinator that killed Nebraska's stellar Blackshirts a few years ago).

I'm getting so sick of the term "mouth-breather." Despite the comedic visual image, it's an incredibly unfair term. Like most, I didn't expect we'd get a win in these last two weeks either, but this Gopher football team has performed well below expectations these past two weeks. CaliGopher said it best:

For those who argue that it's harmful to replace coaches every few years, you're absolutely right. It's also harmful to a program to keep employing a head coach who is terrible at coaching the game of football. There does comes a point when it is more harmful to the program to keep employing a head coach; and it's very possible that that point can occur following a head coaches' third season. Sometimes it makes sense to just cut your losses.

I don't believe that we have hit that point yet. However, I believe we are dangerously close to reaching that point and I fully expect this program will have reached that point by Thanksgiving. Brewster has given me zero reason to believe he is the right guy for the head coaching position. It doesn't make me a "mouth-breather," it makes me a guy with an opinion. Deal with it Kool-Aid Drinkers.

7-0 at half time is not competitive? No chance? Unprepared? I think if not for a few drops, we'd be at least tied at halftime. Isn't how you play in the 1st half preparation? If you looked at that game as us having no chance, I don't know what to tell you. We turned the ball over 4 times. If it was the other way around we maybe win the game.

"Mouthbreathers"?

Looking for an alternative? How about BBs = "Brew Bitchers"...although it doesn't have the visual pop of MBs.

very interesting

so we went in at half time down by 7 to a 2 loss Ohio State team who by the way lost a close game to U.S.C at the horseshoe and that is being blown off the field... our defense legitimately gave up one touch down and we were blown off the field.... our defense had two red zone stops were Ohio State came up empty with no points and we were blown off the field...hummmm very interesting....at P.S.U our defense legitimately only gave up 13 points... and that is being blown off the field....again very interesting. and ohh yeah the interception in the end zone to not go in at half time down 14 zip was not a turn over that made an impact hummm very interesting.

We were beating Michigan 28-7 at the end of 3 in 2003...let's not get "Quarterly" with our debates, lol.......

Why? To obscure what really happened? By breaking down games, we can then understand what really happened. In 2003 we beat Michigan for 3 quarters, and by breaking down the 4th quarter we understand how they found our defensive weakness and exploited it.

This year, by breaking down games, we find that there is progress in some areas and setbacks in others. We've also seen that the game preparation has been mostly sound and half time adjustments affective in all but the last 2 games.

It's how the coaches help the team respond to each situation that allows us to have an informed opinion of the programs direction. This might be harder than forming an opinion about the entire season over one or two plays, but it makes being a fan and having discussions much more enjoyable.

I remember 2 years ago people were celebrating about how under Brewster we get stronger as the game goes on and even at the beginning of this season against AFA, CAL & SYR people made that the case.......

...now? not so much...we got worse in the Wiscy game & OSU.......

I particularly enjoy seeing how composed the Gophers are. Both on the field and the sidelines. No stupid penalties, players get along with the coaches, especially in front of the cameras. When you factor in his recruiting prowess, I am most confused that Maturi hasn't given the genius a fat rolling 5 year extension with a large buyout to keep other teams from hiring him. Listen to Bronko. The time for striking is short and Brewster deserves to be paid in accord with Ferentz and Tressel.

myles - as usual you are 100% correct. players and assistant coaches only get a little heated at each other on the sidelines from time to time at minnesota. it does not happen at any other school in the entire country. no where! and minnesota is also the only school in the entire country who committed -- as you put it -- stupid penalties last week. how could we have been so blind when hiring brewster to not see this was going to happen?! man, are we embarrassed! thank you for pointing this out to us myles. much obliged!

gosh i wish our head coach could be the shining example that the bar-hopping, undergrad-trolling head coach at weeeeskonsin was! but, i guess we can't all be so lucky.

XOXXOXO,
bronko
