Let me summarize the last three years....

1-11 in the first year

last year, a losing streak to finish the second half of the season

this year, well.... you know.

Brewster should be gone by now. Don't let him coach the bowl game. Then Maturi should be fired.

This is typical Minnesota. Is there any guess why the Gophers haven't won the Big 10 since 1967.

If we keep Brewster, we need to go down to DII so we have a chance of winning each week.

because obviously we cant guarentee a win at D1 AA... SDSU proved that last week

What do you suggest we do? I think 6-6 with this schedule is pretty acceptable. We won every game we were supposed to except one and we kept this one pretty competitive defensively.

We had three games in which we couldn't score an offensive touchdown.

I think you should right a book entitled "Golden Gopher Football: 40 years of moral victories, who needs W's"

But this game, like Illinois, was winnable with any kind of offense. Weber 14 for 42; average run 1.3 yards, three turnovers, etc. Gray never used for full series...

So think about what will happen once they get this offense figured out. Six wins with probably the most distgusting Gopher offense in history. Give it another year. Unfortunately the defense may take a step back next year, but let's be hopeful with a year under their belts the offense can be at least average and we may have something.

Brewster's doing a better job IMO bringing recruits in, but he's definitely not delivering the good on the field. Bringing in a rookie OC to install a pseudo-NFL offense with college-age kids (instead of full-time, well-paid professionals) hasn't done him or the program any favors. That said, he'll be back next year.

It sounds like we don't have the money to can him, and even if we did, do you think the boosters would open up their wallets enough to bring in a more-qualified HC? Here's the scenario: we have no record of success (read big-10 championships, Rose Bowl appearances let alone wins, etc) over the last 40 seasons, we brought in an inexperienced coach on the cheap and then canned him after three years. Assuming no massive influx of cash to lure a top-tier coach, who's going to want to come here? The new stadium would help a little, but the combination of relatively low pay and an itchy trigger finger for the AD doesn't make good bait.

The defense appears to be in decent shape, though we'll see what kind of drop-off there is when all our current senior starters are gone. The main issue to my mind is the fact that our offense is obviously having issues adapting to Fisch's offensive schemes and we pay the price with the lack of touchdowns, penalties and generally poor execution. Too much thinking and too much confusion on the field. Fisch has got to simplify his playbook next year and hopefully we'll have a QB and RB step up.

I think it is a given that Maturi is in almost as much

danger of getting the gas pipe as Brewster if the train wreck continues.

Maturi may be allowed to be the face of the University when they hire a new coach before he gets put out to pasture, but he will not be allowed to have any important role, if he miraculously avoids being whacked himself.

Maturi had one shot at hiring a HC in football. He screwed the pooch on Brewster as several of us correctly surmised early on, and he will not get another chance to F up the program.

Bruinick stuck his neck out al long way to get the stadium built, and he is not going to let those suites sit empty for long. He is not going to allow Maturi and Brewster contribute to the apathethic environment that is brewing.

The coaches keep doing what doesn't work-no adjustments, stay the course....good plan!!

Remember the good old days when you'd bench the qb if he played horribly? What the hell, you'd try the 2nd guy to see what he could do when given the keys...crazy talk, I know

Are you serious? Wins alone do not define "acceptable" performance The past 5 of 6 games have been pathetic. This program is not even competitive!

Here is our performance in the past 6 games
PSU - shutout
OSU - shutout (except for garbage time TD)
Mich.St - miracle good performance
ILL - lack of preparation; steamrolled in 1st half
SDSU - embarrassed by mediocre D-1-AA team
Iowa - absolutely embarrassing offensive performance

Go back further
Syracuse - miracle 4th qtr victory
Air Force - emotion and Defense pulled this out
Cal - Blown away by a team shown to be average at best
Northwestern - nice win
WI - We got dominated. score does not reflect what I saw on the field
Purdue - Great D and Purdue mistakes handed this one to us
Mich.St - nice game

In a nutshell, we played decent against AF, NW, Purdue, MSU; 4 of 12 games. Not acceptable

There is no way all you Brewster lovers can call this acceptable.

Bud Grant has a famous saying "you show me a moral victory and I'll show you a loss"

I mean this team is in a tailspin. You have players going in motion at the same time, you have a huge 3rd down play coming up and you get out of the huddle with 2 seconds left on the play clock. You burn a timeout prior to an extra point.

Folks, these aren't things you'd expect of a coach at a high school level. There is no discipline and clearly Brew's not the right guy.

Maturi needs to chalk this up as a mistake and move on and hire a great football coach. That's what you need in this area because we don't have a pipeline of outstanding talent. This is just my opinion.

If only it was so easy as to fire Brewster and hire a "great" coach.

First, just who would be a "great" coach? Notre Dame thought they were getting a great coach with Weiss. Michigan thought they were getting a great coach with Rodriguez. Colorado thought they were getting a great coach with Hawkins. Nebraska thought they were getting a great coach with Callahan.

Second, even if you find this great coach, how can you make him want to come here? There isn't any money available.

I wish the Gophers could attract a "great" coach like Florida and Alabama were able to do, but we don't have the money or the appeal.

if you think the defense takes a step back next year you are mistaken modt of the big plays made on defense the last few games have been by players who will be back next year
