This seems worthy of a thread on how Isiah could screw this up, I'll start. . .

Isiah could screw up by causing Florida to break free of the continental United States and drift aimlessly out into the Atlantic Ocean.
 

FIU can't be worse than the Knicks (plus he doesn't have Stephon Marbury to deal with). I consider this a step up.
 


I have stated in the past that the average NBA coach would make an elite NCAA coach.

OTOH, we are talking about the NBA equivalent of Cheryl Littlejohn.

Isiah could screw up by causing Florida to break free of the continental United States and drift aimlessly out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Can't happen, Florida would be anchored by Isiah's tremendous ego.
 


How long will it be before Zeke has FIU on probation? I'll give it 3 years.
 

This seems like a great hire to me. I've never heard of FIU in a basketball sense, and Thomas is one of the most famous basketball players in history (maybe a slight stretch, but he is a hall of famer, I believe). He may not be an awesome coach, but he can't be much of a downgrade, and you can't tell me kids wouldn't want to play for someone as well known as he is.

This was actually my first thought as well. He's a shady character to say the least, despite the "aw shucks" persona he portrays in public appearances. Big risk here for FIU I think.

i saw a video clip of today's press conference and some schmuck from FIU completely flubbed and introduced him to the crowd and press as isiah "thompson". wow! tough break. and nice work FIU schmuck. way to get off on the right foot - you can't even get your new nba hall of fame coach's name right! it isn't like isiah has a difficult name to pronounce or remember. :)

Maybe, the guy was unconsciously expressing his desire that the new coach indeed was someone other than Isiah Thomas. Isiah Thompson! A bit like Freudian slip...

the worst part is i think it was either the president or provost of the university that "blew it"
 



I maintain that the guy who blew it was against the appointment of Zeke. Just kidding...
 


Which was worse, the Zeke era at FIU or the Clyde the Glyde era at Houston?
 

can't say I am unhappy about this- I am still mad at him for wrecking the CBA. My old Wyoming Wildcatters t-shirt was really cool back in the day. It actually took some work back then to find one- I think I ordered it off an ad in the Sporting News.
 

This has got to be a disappointing turn of events for coach Thompson. His recent position, however, did give him 3 years of International exposure; the experience of which should look good on his resume.
