Being that this appears to be done, where do you think our current recruits stand? Does Fleck bring any of his WMU recruits with him, i.e. QB Tanner Morgan?

Just curious, as I'm sure Fleck is looking for his type of recruits to fit his style of play.

I have heard that he will be bringing his LMFAO collection with him to Minnesota.

Interesting times for sure. When he started at WMU in 2013, he did not honor several (at least two) of their incoming recruits. No idea if this is normal, just passing along information.

From the article...

This will hurt Fleck's reputation in the recruiting world, especially in the Indianapolis area, which is a big piece of the six-hour radius Fleck said he will recruit hard in, but it likely won't linger for long.

And it certainly did not linger for long. He led the MAC in recruiting the last three years.

I also think we pick up a few Western Michigan guys... which has been the running joke on this board for several years, so it only fits.

http://www.forums.gopherhole.com/bo... Thanks for the info, was not aware of that.

If ever there was a year to make a coaching change, this is it. Current recruiting class was small and pretty, pretty bad. It has some good local kids and I don't think they will flip. There will be a minimal impact on recruiting. Suspensions and transfers on the other hand...

FlecK will save this class and enhance it. I think that's why he'll be hired.

They play a similar style of football, ball control offense and good defense. They just happened to be really good at it in the MAC with a few NFL caliber players on offense they could exploit. As soon as they ran up against a superior physical team in WI they looked like a MAC team the first half. WI put it in cruise control and didn't do a ton in the second.

Where I am going with this is..Fleck knows now the type of recruit he needs to be able to compete with WI and Nebraska, and Iowa consistently. It's two steps up from what he was getting at WMU. I am more interested in if he can recruit that type of player long term, hasn't had to do it in the past.

Also, he took this job because he knows next year WMU could very easily open up the season 0-3 or 1-2 with their schedule which is tough @USC @Mich.St home vs Idaho. Coming here buys him time. His value would drop next year if that happened.

He certainly has the energy for it. I don't think TC ever really aspired to be a HC and this guy has always aspired to it. Lets hope he can be great.

Looking at WMU's 2017 commits....Lot's of 3-stars, so not all that different than our 14th ranked in the Big 10 class. http://westernmichigan.247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/Commits

A few I would be interested in...
Tanner Morgan - QB (Duh)
Luke Sanders - WR (6-4, 192)
Tyrone Chambers - DT (6-5. 325!)
AJ Thomas - CB (6-3, 170)
Kyle Sassack - OT (6-7, 270)
Trevor Campbell - OT (6-3, 275)
John Schmitz - OG (6-4, 260)

If you extrapolate his recruiting success onto Minnesota, we will be very happy. Will it happen? Who knows.
His star is shining very bright right now. We'll definitely see a bump in recruiting for the next 2-3 years.

Western Michigan was middle of the pack in terms of recruiting when Fleck took over.

Chambers was a Cincy verbal that just recently flipped to Western. So he might be someone to keep a eye on. Of course getting Morgan would be great!

It was mentioned that in the negotiations - he indicated he wants upgraded assistance coaches and spend money if necessary to attract them. It will be interesting to see what the dream team will be like. It will be nice to tap some of Claeys coaches in defense, but I don't know if that will happen. I sure hope they keep some of Claeys former staff that can recruit in areas that were fruitful to the Gophers. We'd want the Georgia pipeline that produced Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks to continue.

Remember he now has to get the kids in school at Minnesota. Level playing field folks.

We've been looking at a lot of the same players seeing that most of our recruits since Kill have had the requisite Western Michigan offer.

Seriously, I'm hopeful.

Getting in and once in are different, but his team had a 3.14 GPA last semester at WMU.

I am interested in the 7 DT/DEs he recruited....

Agreed. He needs to get some into this class or we will have very few on the roster for 2018.

Coyle fired Claeys knowing he only had until the end of the dead period to hire a coach.

Fleck will hit the road running midnight Thursday, when the last contact period begins.
