TV IMPACT

August is a “dead” period when college coaches can’t contact potential recruits, per NCAA rules. But the Gophers were able to be in recruits’ living rooms with the “Being P.J. Fleck” show that aired on ESPNU each Wednesday in August. Reruns also have aired on Big Ten Network.

“There was one team that wasn’t ‘dead’ on national television, and that was the University of Minnesota,” Fleck said.

Fleck expressed one nitpick with the show: When a young P.J. was shown in a Badgers shirt during the introductory episode that visited his hometown in Illinois.

“They find me at 6 years old in a Badgers shirt; that’s great TV,” Fleck said. “The one picture. My mom and dad had a million pictures laid out, and they picked that one picture. Go figure, right?

“You don’t know how many tweets I had after that picture.”..

BRIEFLY

A decision has not been made on whether freshman receiver Chris Autman-Bell will redshirt this season. He has impressed in training camp but is coming back from a foot injury, Fleck said. “(Autman-Bell) is another true freshman that I think is very, very talented,” he said. …

Steven Richardson has been struck by the improvement of Moore, a fellow interior defensive lineman. “This year’s Gary Moore can definitely beat up last year’s Gary Moore,” Richardson said. “He’s becoming a monster.”

Sorry Coach, but the fact it was a Bucky shirt is exactly why that picture was chosen.

Win back The Axe and all is forgiven.
