Fleck camp opener presser video

the OL question is interesting. this team plays a conference game in a month, so they don't have a lot of time to figure out who is starting and at what position. ideally, you'd like to give the starting OL some time to gel. I also wonder if they have the depth to do some of the 'heavy' packages they've run in the past with 6 OL.

some bits from PJ:

return game took a huge step forward last year...Dragan has a big leg...punter is old....specialists all got better over summer...one of deepest and best special team units...good young linebackers and safeties...Derik LeCaptain good special teamer...

RT: Martes Lewis is a big individual...has committed to improving his body, his study of the game...JJ Guedet has been here a long time, has battled injury...if needed Quinn Carroll can go back to RT, but like him at RG...

LG: Karter Shaw has been here, can play anywhere on interior...told Tyler Cooper this is his time to go

really likes young oline guys like Tony Nelson, Ashton Beers, Greg Johnson...Johnson early enrolled out of Prior Lake High School in January and has really accellerated his maturity

Somewhat off topic: As Fleck was talking about the high school and portal options for recruiting I was wondering what has happened with junior colleges. Now that the portal is there do they even look to JC's for recruits?

My guess is after the first open practice they'll have their desired "starting" five. Regarding Jumbo packages, I think they do. There's a decent number of guards and tackles that might be a solid sixth OL. I am starting to wonder if they are trying to determine if the "depth guy" at one of the contested positions is position flexible.

Just random thoughts.

Okay, PJ talked about Poison the band being a teaching tool at the Big Ten presser, he talked about it again in this presser. The behind the scenes guy PJ hired scored a 35 on college entrance test...(36 is perfect if I'm right.) He and PJ brewed up "the perfect plan for this group" being forced to listen to Poison music in the locker room. (Ain't that some form of hazing?)
PJ thinks it has gone smashingly well.
Can anybody explain what the heck the plan is...the purpose...the point...the desired outcome of doing this is?

As near as I can tell:
He wants guys to focus on poise.
Being in control in tough spots.
Lack of poise is poison...

He basically named four starters...

Ersery LT), Boe (C), and Carroll (RG) you could write in in ink....two returning starters there and a 6th year guy who started the bowl game in NYC and has been taking reps behind JMS for 3 years (started one game in each of 2020 and 2021 as well)...

would write Shaw in in pencil...also a 6th year guy, who was a 2-year starter at Utah State...gave room for 5th year guy Cooper to beat him out...

He laid out battle for RT as between Lewis (a 4th year guy) and Guedet (a 5th year guy)...you either get a 6'7", 330# or 6'6" 310# guy...both have been in Callahan's room a long time and both have been on the field already...laid out one caveat in mentioning he could slide Carroll back over if these two don't cut it

All these 7 guys have been working side by side drilling since January...all are either 4th, 5th or 6th year guys...gelling won't be an issue...

The bonus is Kallerup and BSF and Bryce Williams are all bad ass blockers and also know all these guys and Callahan's schemes inside and out as 5th year, 6th year and 6th year guys with a lot of game experience.

PJ also let it be known (to fans and the projected top 7 vets) that he has at least two interior guys and a tackle who could surprise and take playing time in Johnson, Beers and Nelson.

So, it is a punishment for something someone did that didn't demonstrate poise? They have to endure the music of Poison?
Or, is it like squirting water on the field goal kicker you gotta concentrate (be poised) through the distraction. Can you perform perfect reps in the weight room - concentrate, demonstrate poise, keep a good attitude while enduring or listening to the annoyance of Poison?

I can see value but I'm probably going to hire this guy instead
This Guy if we need annoying distractions.

They face having their assets at Fleck Bank frozen and possibly garnished.

First offense is having your Fleck Bank ATM card taken away.
