MTSU upset by Richard Pitino's FIU squad 61-57 in Sun Belt semifinals. Not a whole lot of beef on MTSU's resume, but they do have a RPI in the high 20's/low 30's.

It all depends on whether this particular Selection Committee wants to reward a a mid-major or two (with a strong RPI) who ran roughshod through their conference.

Let's say the Gophers puke against Illinois... and let's say their RPI falls to ~38 or so. Middle Tennessee or Minnesota - who would you select if you could have only one?

It wouldn't be anywhere near 38 so why bring it up?

It would only fall to 25 at the lowest, but I would always take the school from a major conference in that situation

There are also way more teams closer to the bubble than MN. MTSU is not fighting Mn for a bid.

Interestingly, going into today the Gophers' RPI was 24, Middle Tennessee 25.

If Minnesota's RPI only fell 10 spots losing to both Nebraska and Purdue, how's it falling 14 spots for losing to Illinois on a neutral court?
