National letter of intent signing day is February 3. What would it take between now and then to make you happy with this recruiting class?

I still have not heard a concrete answer on how many guys Brew is hoping to sign. I have heard 28, but I don't know if that includes Campion and Searcy.

I think this class is solid so far if not spectacular. At this point, aside from Henderson, I don't see one guy that is on our radar (or has us on his radar) that would get me really excited.

Assuming we sign 2-4 more, with whom would you be happy?

My hopes are, in order:

Henderson-No explanation needed
Malcom Murray--May not be as interested now that Thornton has committed, but his size and speed with three years left would be a nice addition.
Nduka Onyeali--We need a guy that can get to the QB. Are we still in the race? Yes according to Rivals, maybe not according to Scout.
Dominique Sanders--Potential at a lot of positions, could be a great safety. Scout has us behind TCU for him.
Beau Allen--Local kid, good size. If we don't get him our local media may be all over it, particularly if he goes to Wisconsin. My interest is primarily to save face with the local media and casual fans.
Kenny Bell--Another that I thought was ours to lose. Good size/speed combo.
RobDonovan Lewis or Brock Vereen--Either one would be a nice addition at a seemingly perpetual position of need.
Devon Wright--Seems to be a good RB, and we need one, but I guess I am hoping for better
Wendell Beckwith or Vincent Johnson--I agree that we can never have enough defensive linemen, but I would rather have some of the above
Toby Durham--Unless we lose WRs, I think we are pretty well set here for a couple years

This is not an exhaustive list, but just guys that I have heard about over the last month or so. I have no inside info, just what I see on here and the recruiting sites.

Thoughts?

Obviously I'd take Henderson first and foremost. Kenny Bell's highlights are amazing (see link below). Definitely could use that speed and athleticism on the field. That being said, defensive line is always a position of need (Allen).

Dang, Kenny Bell was impressive. From the comments on youtube, they sure think Kenny is a lock to be a Husker.

I actually really like Toby Durham. I know he is listed as a WR in some places, but he played primarily RB in HS. He is pretty smallish for a RB, but he is impressively fast in his highlight reel. Keep in mind he plays in the best conference in Florida and his speed definitely stood out on his highlights. I am not so sure he wouldn't end up at RB here. He looked tough, he looked like he liked to block, and I could easily see him getting redshirted, coming here, bulking up a bit, and making an impact. He just looks like a natural (but small) runner who makes good cuts and can fly.

When is the U.S. Army All-American game? Is that when Henderson is going to announce?

In my mind, we need one ingredient more than all others. I am going to be really pissed off if we cannot get it (again) this year. Namely, a big shifty running back with speed and the ability to break arm tackles. Please, no more small running backs. Please!! Not convinced Edwards is the right guy. I hope I'm wrong about him. With our recent tradition of sending running backs to the NFL, it is mind boggling to me that we can't get a blue chipper in school that fits the mold. Even in Mason's last couple of years, to my consternation, we could not land one of these types.

If we get such a kid, then I think it becomes an acceptible class of recruits. Without it, I'm officially pissed off again. Hopefully Brew is going to come thru with one of his patented last minute aces.

For as disappointing as this class is, if it stays where it's at we're still recruiting above past levels (at least for as far back as I can remember) and above our ranking on the field. So if it stays as-is, I would hope it gets better in future seasons. But I couldn't be unhappy with a class that's as good or better than we should be getting.

Bell has one king-sized stride. Very shifty and really chews up the real estate with that lope of his. Really funky offense that his high school team runs, but it looks like it's prepared him to do any number of things in college. I could see him playing WR as well as RB depending on the system. He kind of looks like a classic Nebraska player.

If Hawkins sticks with us, I think we're set at WR for this recruiting season. I'd like a big RB as well, but don't know where we rank with the guys who could supply that. It could be Edwards, but we probably won't know where he'll end up playing until he shows up on campus.

Of the guys listed, I'd prefer Henderson and Allen. Onyeali would rank high on my list as well.

Isn't Lipscomb a pretty big kid?

My thoughts are as follows:

1. Henderson, although I'm not counting on anything in regards to him committing to us. I'm actually pretty happy with some of the linemen that we have already, most notably Gjere.

2. I like Kenny Bell a whole lot, but I'm not sure where we sit with him as I haven't seen or heard anything related to what he's thinking. I know that at one point we were his leader. If that's still the case, I would be more than happy to take him.

3. Allen. Won't be too bummed if he doesn't pick us, but it sure would be nice to have another DT to add to the mix.

4. Durham. I get the impression that this kid can really play. His stats are pretty nuts for someone playing in one of Florida's best conferences. Plus, he looks pretty darn good on film. Don't know if we have room for him with Green already having signed and Hawkins still verbally committed. If Hawkins bails however, Durham would a nice replacement.

5. Onyeali. I actually like our young group of linebackers, but it's always nice to have another good one to add to the mix.

6. A running back with size and speed. It certainly sounds as if Hasan Lipscomb will be a Gopher when all is said and done. If that's the case, he fills that need. If not, I would like to see us get somebody like a Devon Wright or a Terrence Kerns. Either way, we need some playmakers back there and I think any of these three could be that guy.

If the new info about Corey Nelson visiting is true, he is definitely one that I could get excited about, and would be a great way to close out this class.

the huff Green swap really hurt. A big part of the rivals ranking is how the kid is ranked in the class. So although we got four star credit for green we didn't get any points for position ranking. It's the largest component. But we know. Without SH it's going to be very hard to get past 35, or even break 40.

I know Rivals has him ranked as a WR, but is everyone positive that Durham would be playing WR at the next level? He looks like a natural RB, and he is the same size as Bell (as big as Whaley right now)?

He looks fast, but not necessarily quick (burst). that can be developed with good strength training but he should show more. His other skills look pretty good though so maybe.

Schnoodler...Yeah, I kind of noticed that as well, but one thing to keep in mind is unlike Bell, Durham has one of the few highlight packages that isn't sped up when he touches the ball. Bell is fast, but he looks like Usain Bolt in his highlight package because it is sped up once he touches the ball (their is a referee that looks like he runs a 4.4 40 on his highlight reel).

Do you think they will update this? Rivals ranks 100 receivers (42 are 4* or higher) so it seems like Green would fit into the rankings - perhaps they weren't counting on him being available when the current rankings were published?

I would hope so, but rivals can only do so much. Every year they seem to try to be more comprehensive. But they don't like to count kids twice the way it is. It would be nice though, pop us back to the low thirties for sure.
