EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – Let’s get right to this week’s Field of 68 projection. We’re exactly halfway home (9 weeks) to Selection Sunday (March 12). The Big Ten and (surprisingly) the ACC lead the way with 8 projected NCAA Tournament bids apiece.
The Big XII (7 bids) clearly has been the best conference but is starting to eat its own, with the Oklahoma schools (both 1-2 in Big XII play) and Texas Tech (0-3) the only teams currently not projected into the field. Interestingly, Baylor and West Virginia retain their spots despite being winless in conference play.
Week 9 Team of the Week: #64 Clemson – The Tigers (13-3, 5-0 ACC) seemingly out of nowhere vaulted to the top of the ACC standings with a pair of road wins, 68-65 over Virginia Tech and then 75-74 over previously red-hot Pitt. Brad Brownell’s upstart Tigers squad has a chance to further move the needle when they host struggling Duke on Saturday.
