Of teams that have played full schedules, the Gophers rank:

- #2 in the nation in fewest penalties (10), trailing only Tennessee who has 9.

- #2 (tied) in the nation with the least amount of turnovers (3)

-#11 in turnover margin

These stats, especially the penalties stat, are great examples of the discipline coach Kill has brought to the Gophers team this year!

Perfect recipe for winning games you are not supposed to win. Hope this trend continues.

It wasn't too long ago this team couldn't line up and have all eleven guys go on the right "hut!"

The change has been remarkable, and it isn't the only one that speaks to the overall team improvement:

1. As stated: penalties waaaay down.
2. Much better D on third down
3. Lack of team member names in the police blotter
4. Deeper at many positions
5. As stated, a nice drop in turnovers
6. Special teams improvement

Also, tied for 13th in Red Zone Offense and 15th for Red Zone Defense. 13th in Rushing Offense. 12th in Kick-off Return Defense. 21st in Time of Possession. 21st in Rushing Defense. 25th in Team Tackles for Loss. 30th in Third Down Conversion Defense. 11th in Offensive Tackles for Loss Allowed (or lack thereof). 21st in Points Scored.

We've done well. Keep it up, boys.

Since you mentioned off field, I'd add an off the charts one year APR.

I just hope that this will translate into the B1G. Before we get too crazy, we did have a pretty easy schedule...

One of the turnovers was about a forty yard pass by Nelson, down the sideline into double coverage against UNLV. It was as good as a punt. The additional factors in a turnover, is does it lead to an opponent score, does it take points off the scoreboard that you do not get back. I would love to see those turnovers we have forced evaluated. Then you add in the blocked field goals, the scoop and score off the block,

These are huge improvements over the past 3 years. They are playing smart football and utilizing their strengths as much as they can. Hopefully we continue to get better recruits and this thing will snowball in a positive way.

That's true, taking into account the teams we have played the most impressive stat is the lack of penalties. I always hated that aspect of our team in the past and I love that we aren't killing ourselves with bonehead mistakes in that regard.

Protect the football. Don't beat ourselves with numbskull penalties. Great reciepe for winning football. I really hope these things continue! It has been REALLY refreshing to watch compared to years past.
